any one have tips on how to get the crank seal to seat into the timing cover with it in the car? i spent about an hour on it with it in the car last night thinking i need something like a 2 inch cup that i can tap on the center and have it seat that way
+1. same for seating a rear main seal, just place the old one over top and CAREFULLY tap it in to place with a rubber mallet...pretty much the only good way to get it in there
i will see if i can find my old seal... dont see how that will help though. as i went around the seal lightly tapping on it it would keep popping out of the other side. think i need to be tapping from the center of it
sometimes i put a nit of silicone around the sealing surface that seems to help it stick. and yes use a cup if you can or get a 2x4 and drill the center out so it fits over the crank and tap that. just dont tap directly on the seal with a hammer it is very likely that you will bend or warp it which could drastically reduce the life of the seal.
