Okay everyone, next question. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't my crankcase filter (found inside my air cleaner assembly) supposed to be connected to part of the air/vacuum system at the other end? Mine is disconnected with no sign of a connection at the other end.

This " breather " goes in your air filter.

There are 3 parts to this next piece, the plastic elbow, the rubber grommet, and the metal screw in cap. the elbow and rubber grommet are available aftermarket.

More pics.... these are all stock items that came on my 83 new... The only item I do not have is the molded hose that goes from the air cleaner to the ellbow... Not sure if these are available....
This allows fresh air ( filtered by the white foam filter) to be taken into your engine...
EDIT: The air cleaner is NOT installed, just laying on the engine for the picture...

I don't think the book you ordered will show this... This is considered an " emissions" part...
Your number 4 picture might be correct for your year.... If not it looks like it would surely be functional to me....

Ok a hose goes from the crankcase filter to the pcv valve? If the blue valve is the pcv valve , shouldn’t the crankcase filter have a hose going to that?

NOOOOOO....
NEW TOPIC.... The PCV is on the drivers side valve cover and it is at the FRONT of the engine.. A vacuum line goes from the PCV valve to the bottom of your carburetor..

Ohhhhhh gotcha! forgive my ignorance. I am still trying to learn all the components locations on this car. I do have that connection already set up. So what are the valves at the back of the intake? you referred to it as a sensor.

OK, I can see the confusion.. I edited my ;post....
Its an early emission system.. This is where the air comes into the engine crankcase... It is filtered by the small sponge type filter that is attached to your main air filter housing... It comes down the rubber tube then goes into your crankcase via the connection on the metal cap......
This is seperate from the air coming into your engine through the main Air Filter for combustion....
