Good posts, guys. I thought I was going get a flamewar, instead I got a lot of sound advice, and good points to think about. I love this site.

he he. I used to wear a kevlar Marcus Allen jersey to the Raider games! We used to go watch MNF at the Red Onion just to see fights break out.
Compared to the sheet goin down in Socal, Portland IS like a small town.
You did make the right choice as evident by the fact that you and your family remained safe and out of jail.

Almost all the events in Portland have no weapons posted at the front gate. Wich means your not allowed to legally pack even with a cwp. You and your gf and her kid were not hurt, you did good. No wonder the "fun center" has long been known as the "fight center". Did the police takle a statement from you after they grabbed those punks? Would be good to see some of them get

Actually they didn't. I got the feeling the police were showing up because of a previous incident. One officer asked if I got hit, and I said no. Thats as far as it went. Technically, intimidation and threats is a crime, (menacing) but I wouldn't have pressed charges anyway. I just wanted them away from me.

I'm not familiar w/ Oregon laws, but in some other states this is not enough. Signs must be of a certain size, have certain types of text, mention the law/act that they refer to, etc. Otherwise they are worthless. Just something to look into I suppose...

(Of course, if you keep your weapon concealed, there's not much that can be said anyway.)

I don't think buying a gun is necessary, pulling one out just makes things more intense. besides that, you are still alive, so pulling a gun to save your life.. doesn't add up to me, what if someone tried to grab the gun and it went off? What if someone got hit?

Well IMHO...

a cwp is a good idea as long as you are willing to use it under the right conditions, and you are willing to face the results.

I used to be licensed in both states, but I dont cary any more. This was my logic:
it is easy enough to kill someone quickly with your bare hands (much easier than most people realize), and if you have to, it is (imho) easier to defend in court.
...ie- the stress of the situation, "i was afraid for my life... blah blah blah...." etc...

The only real drawback is you have to be at close range. BUT since most all shootings happen at very close range (like across a counter, etc) Im willing to take my chances. But again that is a personal call.

If I were in your situation (which I was not) I would not allow myself to become surrounded: as soon as one crossed critical distance (about 3ft for me) I would have laid him out, in a situation of being heavily outnumbered, make it something very graphic like knee-cap one leg, punch him in the throat hard enough to colapse it, stick your thumb through one eye, etc... this lets all the others know that if they close on you, they will pay a DRASTIC price.

REMEMBER !!!!! It is better to be judged by twelve, than carried by six.

Just my op.

Nope doesnt work in crowds, it just incites the other into the fight, plus what if they were on meth (very probable)??? Then they wouldnt feel a thing... and even a 9mm wouldnt stop one right away!

Has worked for me personally in a crowd, twice. (88 & 95)
Meth does dull pain input, it does not however defy laws of physics, if one eye is destroyed, or one knee folds the wrong direction, it does not repair the dammage. It will be easier to ignore pain, that is why you must be precise, without air the body doesnt function. Without a leg that is structually sound it doesnt stand, without a functional elbow, the arm doesnt bend. Meth is good stuff (Im a former drug user) but it is not PCP...

Like I say it's always easier to say this or that since I wasn't there, it's just my .02...

Good points. I dont think these guys were on meth, I just think they were *ssholes.

I grew up in Forest Grove, OR, seen more than my share of meth heads!

ONly thing is if you pulled a gun out. i am sure a few of the thugs are probably packing too and possibly pull out a gun and point one at you.

So it would be rough to shoot 3 guys with guns pointing at you. Along with their possible friends sticking around enclosing on you. Also with a packed crowd around to worry about receiving missing rounds.
