I just got a new crossmember installed today for the transmission, and I already had the part, it was a ford racing x member and it said on the instructions to tack weld the part that slides where the bolts go thru and after it got installed today the guy that put it in told me that you don't have to and didn't even tho the instructions said too? so is it important or no

i just modified mine when puttin my tremec in, and had to get rid of the spot welds, and the guy who sold me the trans said don't worry about welding it again, but i'm still going to, just haven't yet. can't say i have had problems yet, but i haven't gotten on it at all. he works at a mustang shop, but i don't know him well, and i am in no way an expert, i just thought i'd reply to give you a bump, by no means am i saying you don't have to. i mean it came welded for a reason so i would re weld it where you want it.

You don'y have to. It just keeps the Xmember from sliding back and forth.

Under normal circumstances it shouldn't move, but it might put some more load on the front engine mounts when the driveline shifts back and forth.

I'd get the car up and running and when you get a chance, just toss a couple tacks on. Nothing you need to worry about before the car gets rolling though

I know somebody that has what your talking about and he didn't weld them and he's had no problems. You would kinda think the vibration would wear them a little but I suppose the bushings take alot of that out.
