Cruise Control broke any ideas?

I'm a cruise control nut. I use it all the time, it helps me keep my speed under control and avoid tickets.

I was driving home from the drag races with the cruise on and going about 75 mph. No probs. All of a sudden I hear a pop in the steering column or dash, smell that elecronic burning smell and the cruise has not worked since.

No blown fuses. I haven't really dug into it yet, just wanted to see if this is a common problem or if you all had any suggestions.

The cruse control & cig lighter sare a fuse if I remember correctly. Check it out.

jrichker with another great diagram. Who woulda thunk it???? If your horn doesn't work, chances are your cruise doesn't either. My horn/cig lighter fuse blows now and then and then my cruise doesn't work so I think jrichker is spot on.

its been a while since i worked on the(former Ford tech),but sometimes the module will short and blow the fuse.,the plug might be burnt and have high resistance.

There is a vacuum control valve on the brake pedal that disenages the cruse control when you step on the brake. Make sure the vacuum line is in good condition and the valve isn't stuck open.
