well its time to upgrade the heads on my 289. ive read through some of the previous threads on choices and i know whats out there. but how big should i go? im got a rebult bottom end. bored 30 over with flat top pistons. ive read that if i go to big on valve size i can cause some piston to valve probs. also, chamber size, right now im running 9.2:1 compression on the stock heads. how should i chose the new champer size. so sombody help me out here. thanks
o yeah. this is a street car...

ok im answering my own question here. im readin on edlebrocks site that 1.90 IV is the biggest i can go with stock pistons..which i belive would be flat top?

now im trying to put together all the parts ill need to do this headswap...im lost on the head gaskets...im not sure what size to get? or what material the should be?

You will still need to check piston to valve clearance, the cam is what determines the clearance. I ran a 1.85 intake valve on my 289 and had clearance problems with my stock pistons, this was with an afertmarket cam.

For the headgaskets I would go with either the felpro 1011-1 or 1011-2, I believe the 1011-1 is a .041 compressed and the 1011-2 is a .039 compressed. I use the 1011-2. You will also need the correct stepped washers since the edelbrock heads are drilled for 1/2 head bolts and you have 7/16. summit carries these for about $35.

What cam are you running now?
