I plan on buying a '92 5.0 coupe w/ 80,000 miles in great condition. Only thing wrong with it is 3rd gear sync. are going out and the throw out barring is making some noise. She told me that she wanted $5000 for the car before i test drove it, seemed like a good buy until i discovered the problems. How much do you think i should knock off the amount to offer since the trans. is alittle busted.

I'd knock off at least $1000 from her asking price as your tranny will need an overhaul.

If the car had not been beat on, the 3rd gear syncro would be fine, so assume this car's been run pretty tough, or the girl doesn't know how to shift.

Thats a good point. Look at it this way: Like the above poster stated that was beat to hell to blow 3rd, so chances are you have other weaknesses in the trans not to mention the rear end depending on how bad it was rodded. I would offer no more then $4,000....err even $3,500.00. Your call but its not in prime condition, miles dont matter. You could have a car that has 80,000 miles on it and beat to hell and one with 150,000 miles on it that was baby'd...depending on which car was beat to hell more makes the difference.

Tranny- $1,000 (at least depending on how you wanna go)
Clutch- $250.00 +
