Difference between 5.0L and 4.6L

Hello everyone,

My boss has a streetrod setup to run a 5.0, but has decided he would rather run a 4.6L. That brought up these questions that I know you guys can answer, I only know 5.0's and am not that familiar with the 4.6L.

Are the bellhousings the same?

Are the motor mount locations close?

How much of a size difference is there? Especially length.

Thanks
Russ

I have both and dont get me wrong im not an expert but the 4.6 is diffanatly wider and if im not mistakin it is shorter and the bellhousing is dirrerant and so is the motor mounts NOT EVEN CLOSE,the best thing for your boss to do is stick with the 5.0 much easier to work on and parts are a whole lot cheaper. But on the other hand i like my 4.6 to BUUUUTTTTT not as much as my five O!

Thanks guys for the quick response.

Like I said I am more of a 5.0 guy, (I have a 95 GTS), and I know that the same car had the 4.6 in it the next year and I didnt know what changed in order for that to happen other than the motor being wider. The main reason he wanted to change is he had access to a s/c 4.6 with wiring and exhaust, however his streetrod already has a c4 and motor mounts for a 302.

Also I agree with you purplestang90 I test drove 96 and up stangs before I bought my 5.0, I just prefer the sound and feel of the 5.0 compared to the 4.6, you cant forget how much easier it is to work on also.
