Differences in edelbrock rpm lower to rpm II lower?

Anyone know the actual difference between an rpm and rpm II lower?

I know for a fact that the ports between the uppers and lowers are identical, because you can use the rpm I spacer on both (yes, i've seen this in person)

Edelbrock claims the lowers are different but on the phone they couldn't tell me why or how.

I thought they had a different number of bolts or different spacing. But if the spacers are the same, I guess I'm wrong.

I seem to remember a pic of the two lowers in one of my magazines, and I thought the ports were a little bit bigger and straighter on the new 2.

EDIT: I know the Performer and RPM use the same lower.

I actaully just read this in a old article. The performer rpm was the first one to come out, and it was very hard to access the bolts to secure it to the motor. The RPM II is the new model with a few changes, everything is the same, just the bolts that secure it on are in easier to access locations. I think this was in the March 2005 Super Fords Mag.

Well, in comparing pics, looks like the II has 2 extra bolt holes drilled near the center that aren't drilled on the rpm or perfromer lower.
But Looks like there is no real difference, noticeable to the eye through pictures.

I know the intake spacers are perfectly identical because when my mechanic installed an rpm II on a car back a while, they needed a spacer to clear the valve covers. And none was availble yet, because the II was new at the time.
So they used a rpm spacer, and it fit perfect. Less the two bolts in the middle, That don't really connect to the runners.

It was also hinted to me, that edelbrock, just drilled those 2 holes, and said the intake was different so they could get more sales and ask more money for the II. Instead of just selling the upper.

Dub's, i'll have to check that issue out.

Looks like i'll just have to replace the whole thing.

Hey 2000 i found the article its the May 2005 from 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords. Its on page 58. It reads "The performer was Edelbrocks first 5.0 EFI intake, and its mounting system shows it. Theres a bolt in the middle of the plenum to tediously install, as well as some studs and nuts that are tightly fitted to the casting. No biggie, really, as you do this job only once in most cases. but it does make us appreciate Edelbrocks RPM and RPM II improved mountings." Thats what it said, so thats how why i thought what i thought. Maybe that helps!
