I just got my car back from mustang magic and in a world of hurt. I brought in the car fgor my tranny fluid change and then was told my car has a earlier t5 in which explains why the k member doesn't meet my motor mount and the shifter doesn't line up with the tranny tunnel cutout. Also my driveshaft is exposed. I wanted to know what were the differences in the transmissions besides the old t5 being shorter?

Now i had to have a new clutch installed, custom mount for the tranny, and i am awaiting my driveshaft spacer.

What a ****in nightmare, but while i'm at it i was hoping to learn something positive out of this.

So are their any differences in the transmissions besides overall length?

SN95 T5 has longer input shaft thus a longer bellhousing. Which explains what the mechanic told you.
First gear and second gears are slightly lower (higher numerically) on the SN95s. I think this was to compensate for the heavier SN95 over the lighter Fox Mustang.
I would think having a Fox style T5 would make the reach to the shift handle even further away from the driver.

yea even though i'm 5 10, and i always like the have my seat close to the front and it while its barely noticeable i know 5th gear should be a lot closer.

Would their be any gains wit the older t5? (i looking for atleast one positive out of this mess)

If you ever switch to a tremec you won't have to go through all this again, you'll have everthing you need already. Also the older t5s are a dime a dozen so if it ever goes out you can just slide a whole new one in yourself. That's all I got :(

Just for gee whiz; the fox has the nuetral swith on the trans where the sn95 has theirs on the clutch pedal. If you wanted to hook up a remote car starter made for an automatic:

Whoa. That must be a mustang that was left it in gear and was remote started while parked in the garage. It took me a minute to realize. That sucks. Lucky there wasn't a car parked outside the garage. Hopefully that wasn't yours....
