diffrent brand of lifters on each side of engine

hey, hows it going. i have a lifter ticking on my mustang at start ups. the ticking is coming from the passenger side of the car. i had all 16 lifters replaced when i rebuilt my engine 3 years ago. should i replace all 16 lifters or is it all right to just replace all 8 lifters on the passenger side of the engine. i will probally buy ford racing lifters, but i do not know what kind of lifters the engine rebuilder put in my engine. thanks

Well, I would personally buy a full set of Ford Racing lifters and be done with it, however, it is little known knowledge that there are a very limited number of automotive manufacturers and chances are the lifters you have in the engine are the same ones provided by Ford Racing even though could have been provided by a different "brand."

ive got a little of that ticking too..can you just tighten them down a bit as i heard once?..i really dont know

pull it apart and make sure they all have the bleed hole facing upwards if its not spin them around and put it back together , I had alot of ticking when I put my HCI on and then changed intakes , didnt even realize they had an air bleed in the lifters but there is a notch in each lifter only on one side of them and they must be facing up for the air to escape easily .......when i pulled mine down to change intakes I checked the lifters and sure enough 8 of them were upside down , put them in right side up and put it back together and now no more tick .....if you pull it apart and this isnt the problem go ahead and get a whole new set and check everything else for wear ......

Ive heard that doesnt matter...My old motor and my friends had the holes in all mixed up orders, just randomly placed and they didnt have have any ticks. That is how oil gets into the lifter, i have a spare lifter in front of me and thats the only way i can see for the pressurized oil to get in, and since its pressurized whether the hole is in the front or back its still going to get in the hole. Thats my opinion anway, I doubt this would be his case since its been fine for the last 3 years and now it just showed up, Just for my memory I put all the holes pointing the lifter galley when i put my motor together.

Im surprised you even have a bad lifter, those things hardly ever go bad. Anyways, if your getting new lifters, avoid Ford Racing crap because everything they make is outsourced reboxed crap. Crane makes these replacement lifters and I think they are the cheapest on the market.
