Do I need to upgrade to 8-rib pulleys?

hi guys, i have a vortech v1 s-trim and i want to achieve 14-15 psi. im told by a friend that with any pulley smaller than a 3.33, the belt will slip. is there anyone here making this kind of boost with the standard 6-rib pulleys? a 2.8 should produce this kind of boost, right?

Yea you are going to need an 8 Rib-Kit.

I'm running the 3.12 with my V2-SQ on a 6 rib and having no problem with belt slip. I'm running a regular NAPA belt that is as tight as I can fit on and making around 15lbs of boost.

Your friend is wrong...I run a 2.8 pulley @ 14psi with no problems at all. You should be fine....

its always good to upgrade to 8 rib below 3.33 pulley in my opinion. I was having belt slip with my 3.2 pulley and upgraded to the 8 rib. Even if you dont see noticible belt slip, the 8 rib conversion will make the boost hit a lot harder and at a lot lower RPM then the 6 rib. If you can afford it, might as well do it.

I think both of you guys are the exception, heh. I ran a 3.12" with a NAPA belt and it didn't slip much, but it did on the dyno, and it did when down shifting them slamming into the throttle. So yeah...you don't NEED the 8-rib kit, but it will make the power come on sooner, and be waaay more steady. All of us vortech 2v guys are pretty lucky though, at least we have AWESOME belt wrap with the stock 6-rib setup - it's waaay worse with a v-belt car (like a 302).

I have a RR no slip pulley and it works great. One day when my ish is running good I am going to see what their 2.9 " will do!

i thought about going 8 rib with my current setup, but its just too much work for me right now

you are all using 113" belts right? vortech recommends a 112.8" with the 3.33" pulley but the closest that i could find was the 113" and im afraid that if i go down to a 2.8" pulley that my belt tensioner will be maxed out.
