Forced Induction Vortech bypass valve necessity

I have a v3 entry level on a hci 302 makes around 7.5 psi at 6750 rpm. The tires were slipping and rpms spiked. I prefer to shift around 5500-5750 to make long reliable hp? ( I don't think I want reguarly shift that high) people correct me if I'm wrong.

I am wanting to switch to a 8 inch crank pulley and slightly smaller s/c pulley to increase turbine speed at lower rpms.

I don't really have a need / want to increase overall max boost just want it sooner in rpm. Vortech s/c turbine calculator puts a 8 inch crank and 3.15 blower pulley at 52500 turbine speed at 5750 rpm. (V3 blower max recommended is 53000?)

What boost level requires a bypass?

Would like some input for people who have trotted down this path before.

Anything above 6 psi requires a bypass valve. It won’t hurt at lower boost either so ar your current boost level you should probably use one.

I think the pulley combo you mentioned will make a lot of boost. I’ve read 16-18 psi but I don’t know what rpm or engine combo those people are using. It may be wise to start with one or the other.

You may end up in block splitting territory on this quest. I have very similar setup as you (HCI v3sci). I made 416hp/452tq at 5500 rpm and 6psi.
