Iam having car problems right now but after I get this straight I want to see what my car can run. I have wanted to go to the track for about a month now but some thing all ways happen. The first week I lost a lugnut right befor I was getting ready to go the track. There is no way Iam driven 45miles with 4 lugs on the back tire and then try to race. Now it is my overheating problems. My buddy has about the same setup as me but he has a 69 pickup and 3.25 and he runs 10.00 flats all day. I think I should run 9.6 and up. If I run mid 9's and up I'll be happy.

personally, id ditch the 351W heads and I would use an RPM intake. You shouldnt have a problem running mid 9s. It will be a matter of traction

I think he should go ahead with the 351W heads but for an intake, an older Edelbrock F4B would be my choice. Other similar intakes are the current Ford A321, older C9OX and the Cobra high rise. Also a slightly larger cam.

You should definitely be in the 9's if you don't spin through the 60 foot mark.
I raced my '66 coupe for the first time this past weekend and ran a 9.800 in the hot and humid Georgia air.
60' 2.324
330' 6.403
1/8 9.800
MPH 72.42
1000' 12.746
1/4 15.248
MPH 89.83

My combo is a '71 302 with stock no flowing heads, stock no lifting cam, stock no stalling converter, RPM intake, 600 edelbog, comp headers with 2 1/2" exhaust and 3.55 gears. I can barley spin the tires and can only hold the rpm's at 1000 on the line before my rear tires spin. But damn was it fun.

Oh yeah, I also have hard compound tall and skinny 205 75 14's.

The 351 heads are out for now because the guy at the shop said I would lose power if I go to put these on my car. The tires I have on my car up front are 195/70/14 and the back are 235/60/14 so I think I should get some grip. I have not ran the car yet but with my stall I think I could get a good launch. My intake and cam make power from 2500-6500 but my stall is 3500 so I should go with a bigger cam to try and match the stall.

I will be honest man and say I don't think that can will make power past 6k. I've got aftermarket heads and a cam with almost .550 lift and I only shift at 6100. Also, don't be dead set on that stall. Even if that is what it is rated at. You may need 300 ft/lbs to stall it that high. If does some how get that high, you will really be half way past that cams powerband. If you want to keep the same set up you have or a simial one, get rid of the stall. If you want to go wilder, **** can the heads and cam, and build around the stall.

I think you need to go back to the drawing board with your engine build. Your components are way mismatched. You have a fairly small carb on a high flowing intake. You have stock heads and want to go with a more extreme cam because it matches your torque converter?

I'd recommend getting the Dyno2000 program and try various combinations to get where you want to be, but I'll let you know now that new heads are going to be a big part of getting you there. For now, try getting an Edlebrock RPM intake for cheap, and going back to your stock torque converter, or something around 2400 stall. That alone will get you into the 9's in the 1/8 mile.

You probably have your timing too far advanced and its causing the overheating...

Just another opinion.... Now go burn up the track.
