does anybody know of a high flow catalyc converter with a carb number? so its legal to use here in cali. i thought i saw one in a 5.0 mustang or mustangs and superford magazine but i cant find it.
are the magnaflow cats you are referring to "high flow?" I'm interested in them too and I live in California, I'd like to boost my sound output. Ever since I got the Saleen body kit, my catback had to be redone, and it sounds quieter than before and I'm guessing it's because of all the bends and curves necessary to support the Saleen rear fascia.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but according to "bdcardinal", the only legal mid-pipes and cats in Cali are the stock ones. There's also a $2500 fine for each stock cat that has been removed. Do a search on here on "bdcardinal". He works for the state and has first hand knowledge of the laws.
It is a sad situation. If I lived in Cali, I'd be tempted to have 2 exhausts. One that looks like the stocker but is hollowed out & the other totally stock for testing. I'd also be very careful about the noise level b/c I think this woud be the 1st thing to tip off officials.
Here on LI we have a tough dyno test to pass. I can use the Magnaflows legally...provided they pass the test. IMO, that's the way it should be.
yea it sucks here in cali with all those smog laws lol i had to get a x pipe that welds to the stock cats but i saw in one of my mustangs magazines an add for one that they said was legal in cali with a carb# i dont think it was magnaflow. i guess i just have to search thru a few hundred magazines on my day off to find it
only the stock cats on 96+ 4.6 stangs are legal. if you want an X pipe, you have to weld in an X after the cats and also not modify the location of the cars or the O2 sensors.
