Is bigger better? I was browsing a Stang mag today and saw ads for an 80mm TB instead of the 75mm I usually see. Is 80mm better? How come there are so many people using 75mm if there's a bigger one out there? Same question with tail pipes, I've heard that once you pass a certain size the car actually loses power because the engine needs a certain amount of backpressure? Is that right?
Thanks,

Back pressure is a very misleading term, what you want is air velocity and volume. Too big of an throttle body can slow down the intake charge and cause general hell with your intake and hurt power, same with exhaust. Now if you're not NA and using forced induction, bigger is always better

What he said......Yes that's why you see like aftermarket 95mm and stuff for the Cobras. The more air you can cram down into the motor with FI the better! With NA, unless you have some different heads and intake setup, I wouldn't go bigger than 75mm, imo.
gotcha, now what about exhaust? I've heard not to go bigger than 3".... ? But that SLP is 3.5 and looks sweet....

those are just the tips. a 3' exhaust is to big for a daily N/A driver, but with tips thats another story.

If you park your car outside, you may not want 3' exhaust. Animals and homeless people may crawl inside for shelter. Then you start the car, gas them, and then you have a dead oppossum or street bum that you have to dispose of. It could get really messy.

3" single exhaust (f-bodies) is just fine, but duals it's just too much for NA. 2.5 for duals is just fine, you won't be choking it until you've got a big ass cam and maybe even bored and stroked.
Ok, thanks for the info guys.

The dec issue of MM&FF dyno test some large 1 3/4 headers vs smaller 1 5/8 headers on a 03 cobra in the 600rwhp range. The smaller headers make more power all the way at any rpm. In that case bigger is not better
Now you can also ask your girlfriend what she thinks about it
