The biggest advantage is that DOHC breathes better by way of having not only 1 intake & exhaust 1 valve, but 2 intake & exahust 2 valves. More air in & more air out means more power & more power potential given the same displacement.

the difference you will feel in the seat is........you will build power later in the rpms.....where the gt 16v has a great tq curve but dies off quikly.....my gt would pin my girl in her seat only threw the tq curve...the mach keeps her there

Very good depiction as my wife also says the Mach pulls way harder than my rather heavily mod'd GT in my sig, and that was stock for the Mach. It doesn't seem much quicker now but that's cuz I don't get on it nearly as much cuz it's so loud.

DOHC doesn't stop pulling
SOHC does stop pulling

Don't SOHC's respond a little better to torque? DOHC is the peak HP KING but SOHC GT's seem to make better torque then Cobras, as far as mods go. (excluding boost)

so the only way to keep the high torque at the higher end on a GT is to get a blower rite??

It's all about powerband...GT's redline at 5800rpm for a reason, and Cobras redline at 6800rpm for a reason. The GT's powerband is smaller, and the engine is setup so no more power is made really past 6k. The Cobras engine just keeps pulling harder and harder, hence the higher redline.

A turbo or centrifugel will definately make great peak hp gains, and centrifugel superchargers will add a lot of top end power. Aside from that, changing your intake manifold, exhaust components, etc to make your engine breath better is essential and will yeild a bunch of high end power.

For peak power, mod for mod, the DOHC will always reign supreme over a SOHC.

Mod for mod the DOHC will always reign supreme over a SOHC, exponentially.

SOHC's can take cobra outta the hole, but i think is because the cobra has IRS. They can experience wheel hop out of the hole. On the other hand, the GT's and Mach's have a solid rear axle. Nothing but to the floorboard outta the hole....

i don't have the irs, i think it's only 99+ cobras that have it.

'03-04 cobras w/14 psi, even with all the bolt ons, don't have 663 hp. so what else doesn't your 2v do?

The 4.6L DOHC heads really do have great breathing potential. The 4.6L SOHC heads breath well enough, but nothing like the DOHC heads.

That said, I think that DOHC as a general concept is pretty dumb. Why use 32 valves to make 320HP when a 16V OHV Chevy motor (or a Ford 302) can make that without breaking a sweat?

Overall I like 16V / SOHC the best because it's a simple setup that doesn't use pushrods. Of course, when you're stuck with 3.55" bores it's hard to make 16 valves flow adequately.

6000rpm fuel cut, no? I can drive my cobra to 7000rpm, but it still technically "redlines" at 6800.

The difference is because of the head design, two more valves and LOTS more airflow is why. If you had a 4V head that could run off of one cam, you probably wouldn't be able to tell a damn difference.
