I'm looking for a donor car with an AOD and a 5.0 for my 65 Coupe. I've noticed that Fox Mustangs are hard to find. Can anyone tell me how the drivetrain from a Crown Vic or a Grand Marquis would work out. You can find them all day long for reasonable prices. Are there any differences in the motors and transmissions? What years should I look for? What years should I stay away from?
Any Help would be appreciated

I'll try to make this as brief as possible. The reason why Fox body mustangs are popular engine donor cars is because they have the 5.0 "HO" (high output engine). The crown vics and grand marquis have the regular 5.0 engines. Are you going to put a carburator on this donor engine? If you are looking for a 5.0 HO engine also look in 90+ t-birds and cougars also the lincoln lsc's have them starting in the later 80's. I would look for an 85+ engine because that's when they started with the roller bearing cam. As far as the aod I'm not too sure but I imagine the family cars have softer shift points in their trannies. Maybe somebody else can help you with that one? Good luck with your search.
