Ok so Im going to look at a 1998 Cobra convertable tomorrow and I think I might buy it if I like it. I know I could find all of the answers to these questions if I had time to search but I dont :( I know a lot about fox bodies because I use to have one, Ive been a member here for a long time and I think it's time I get a new Stang. Here is what I know about the car:

Its a vert
It cost 14k

Ok so the questions.

What colors were available?
It has 305hp right?
What trannys were available? Please tell me 6 speeds... Please tell me no auto was available...
What should I look for?
Were they available with cloth seats? (I hope not)
How many miles would you consider as a max?
I probably wont be doing a ton of work to it because I have a different main hobby to sink my cash into but I've been w/o a Stang for a while and damn-it that aint right :D

Anything else?

*Edit: lol forget the sig... I wish I still had her but I dont :(

oh hey I just found this on line, color is black (perfect!)

96-98 Cobra's come in Yellow, Crystal White, Black, Rio Red, Lazer Red, Mystic, and Atlantic Blue.
They do have 305 Hp.
96-97 Have T-45 Trannys and 98's have 3650's.
Only Leather interior.
For 14k i would say max miles whould be somewhere around 50k
If you want a fast car and don't want to build it up Cobras are the way to go. GT's are slow.
Some things to look for are if it is an actual cobra signatures on the valve covers. Pay attention to how the tranny shifts those 3650's have alot of problems. Around 3250rpm you will feel a boost that is normal they have irmc's/ computer controled runners/ second throttle body opens. Check if is beat on you don't want to have to fix or buy a tranny or a motor for these cars very expensive.

Also the 97's came in Pacific green...but the 98's only came in Laser Red, Bright Atlantic Blue, Chrome Yellow, White, and Black

All 96-98 Cobras had Borg-Warner T-45's with a few 98's with Tremec T-45's that are actually BW's with Tremec stickers on them since Tremec bought BW that year...Ford didn't start putting 3650's in Mustangs until 2001...

There were a few Cobras that actually had cloth seats but there were very few

Thanks guys, Im goin to look at it right now. I still dont know what the interior is like but it is a black vert w/ a black top. Also the actual price (not sure why it says 18k in that ad I posted) is 12k @ 65k miles, doesnt sound bad to me at all, of course when you actually see it, that can be a different story as we all know...

Ok I saw the car. Its really nice, only a couple of quirks.

First the car was DUSTY, they really need to clean it before Ill consider buying...

Second, the fuse for the power seat was blown so I couldnt test drive it. :nonono:

A little bit of paint was rubbed off on the bumper where the fog lights are.

The sun visors (my wife said) were kinda junky.

So...

The plan is to call them tomorrow (when they claim the fuse will be replaced) and let them know that I need them to detail the car before Ill look at it again.

Im not great at this stuff so I have a couple of questions for you guys.

Is it ok for me to request that they replace the visors before I buy it? (This is from a large Ford dealer in the area btw)

The guy appologized profusely for the fuse and mumbled something about taking some $ off the price of the car for my trouble. How much is reasonable to ask? They are asking 12,999.00 for the car.

I started the car and watched the pipes to see if I could see any smoke and it started right up sounded great and had no smoke to speak of.

Should this be in SVT talk?

Thanks

Not everyone has $19,000 to spend. If you really like the car and it seems right to you I would either have a mechanic check it out or trust your own judgement. Cobra's are hard to find. As far as the price droping goes dealerships need to sell cars and I think they are struggling to sell used cars. Make them an offer according to how much you like the car if you really want it ask for $500-$1000 off if you want to get a deal ask for $2,000 off.

Well, I went to look at the car again today and the numb nuts cant figure out how to put a fuse in i guess...

The thing is that this is a very nice car at a great price just idiot sales guys...

One question, why are the sun visors so torn up when the rest of the car is in such good shape? Is it possible that the wind on the visors tore them up? They look kinda wind thrashed.

This is pissin me off because I dont even know if Ill fit in it. Im 6'5" and weigh 260 or so. They said they will have it fixed in the morning. At least they detailed it...

Can you guys give me some performance #s? Like 0-60 and the 1320? Its full weight and TOTALLY stock (which is one of the reasons I want it).

Thanks
