i ordered a set of jegs sport star wheels, 15x4. used a 3/8 spacer. and it fits no rubbing what so ever on my 2007 gt. it was stated before that the early 2005 stangs had smaller front brakes, so they would fit no problem like this, but i figure i'd try it out on my car.

no problems. gunna order the rear set, and try out some spacers next week.

tried my brothers drag lites instead, and it was rubbing.
so i guess however the design of the inside of the wheel is different, makes up for it.

pictures will be coming shortly, my phone was acting up so i couldn't get any pictures.

Did you have to put longer studs in?

nope. stock studs, and stock lug nuts. although, i am going to an open lug for the wheels because i believe NHRA requires an open lug to see thread engagement. which i believe must be a half inch of engaugement. and i'm 90% sure that i have that if not more. if i pick up tires tomorrow, when i throw them on the car i'll measure it.

i believe its around 15 lbs. each. vs the 10 lbs the welds weigh. they are heavier, but they are a half inch wider, and i believe the welds are multiple piece design where these are single piece.

i cannot find my scale, but they arent much heavier then the welds. i lifted both with only one hand.

yeah. its a nice thing to be able to do a performance modification and one for looks at the same time.

i'm trying to decide if i should order the rears tomorrow and next month get tires for all 4, or get tires put on the front ones and just rock the front ones till next month.

i really need a sticky tire out back, but the tracks don't open up till feb 28th/march 1st.

poll - order the rear rims tomorrow, or get tires for the front?

make sure you check how many threads are actually engaging on the front with the stock studs and lugs. I did the same wheel and spacer over the summer and only had 3/8" of threads engaged in the lugnuts. I ended up changing out the studs. I am also going to do the rears in the spring, so please post up your results or pm me after you do yours.

Thanks,
Charlie

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NHRA/IHRA rules require half the width of the stud to be protruding past the wheel nut for them to pass tech, do they not?

EX. If you’re running ½” stud diameter, then you must have at least ¼” of threads showing beyond the edge of the wheel nut.

i dunno, i couldn't find anything on that, the article i found was saying that it needs for instance if its a half inch stud, you need at least a half inch engagement but i dont know how credible the source i found was.

is there anywhere i can read the nhra rules? i looked about a month ago at the nhra site trying to purchase a rule book but they said they were making the 2009 book so stay tuned or something like that.

5.2 WHEELS

Must be automotive-type wheels suitable for street use. Minimum wheel size: 13-inches (33.0 cm) (unless originally equipped with smaller wheels and vehicle is equipped with original engine). Wheel studs must be threaded into hex portion of lug nut a distance at least equal to the diameter of the stud. Automotive-type wire wheels or motorcycle wheels permitted on front axle only of Dragsters weighing 1,800 pounds (816.5 kg) or less. See General Regulations 5.2.

i interpret that as it needs to be threaded into the lug at least the diameter of the wheel, so it would need to be in a half inch.

just found my scale. weighed them in.

around 13 lbs each. just a little bathroom scale so its probably not dead on, but its not much weight over a weld wheel.

ordered 165/15s from tirerack, 45 bucks a piece, kumho tires. they are expecting them to arrive in the delaware location on the 8th, so i'd think by the 13th or so i should have them mounted and balanced and on the car.

starting to get a nifty part pile in my room for waiting to go on :nice:

still waiting on getting the tires in, i'll def weigh them when i get them. i know the tires will be a little bit heavier then like a front runner tire, but i need something streetable. so i'm fine with a little bit more weight.

JEGS the 15x4 with the 1.75 backspacing with the 4.5 bolt pattern. then a 3/8 spacer. i ordered the billet ones like a moron, so i spent about 30 bucks more then i should of but oh well. hah.

i like the sport lites also, so maybe get a set of front runners and drag slicks for the track only and use the sport stars for street use :nice:

i'm also going to try to get a center cap like the CJ wheels.

sounds good. thats the track i've been mainly going to, since i'm not quite sure how to get to atco and island is a little far.

i've only been to the track twice, but its definitely a fun experience, and i can't wait till they open back up on feb 28th.

first time i went down there there was a bullitt bone stock running 13.5 consistantly.

update - kumhos came in tonight. i go into work later tomorrow, so i shall be going to get the tires mounted and balanced, and then throwing them on tomorrow. got my camera phone working again, so i shall take pictures tomorrow. and put several miles on.

also tuner came today. woot. all full of new mods.

BIG update!

found out on another forum 15x8 jegs wheels with a 5.5 backspacing fit in the rear NO SPACER! or swaybar relocation! bolt right on!.

i'm ordering mine tomorrow night with tires. i was going to wait another 2 weeks or so but after seeing this i had to.

ordering these, a 275/60/15 m&h set of radials, and open ended lugs.
