Doing my cobra brakes when they come in. My MC resivoir is dry right now. How much and what brake fluid do I need. I was thinking 3 quarts of DOT 4... Yeah or Neah?
I think you would be good with 2 quarts, but you can always get 3 and just have some extra around if you dont use it. Just make sure you dont open it until you have to, because its much easier for the fluid to pick up moisture. Also, make sure you use decent fluid.
I recommend ate blue, its dot 5.1 but it works well in our cars. Been in my car for a year w/ no problems. Its much less hydroscopic than dot 3 or even dot 4 and so you will have to change it much less often. The boiling point is not as high as ford dot 3 however it will retain a higher boiling point longer than the ford dot 3. Most brake fluid should be replaced annually (full system flush) but the ate stuff you can replace every 2 years no problem with street use. Also it comes in either blue or gold color so when you flush the system you know when your done (you get blue fluid coming out of the bleeders) and the next time you flush you use the gold so again you know when your done because gold fluid comes out of the bleeders. When they made brake fluid they were real smart to make it user friendly. OH and it does not cost mere than the ford stuff. Look at local BMW dealerships they usually have the stuff.
You can order some online from a bunch of places...but I guess if your in a hurry its not an option. I highly doubt that napa has it. I've been to a napa before asking for brake fluid and I dont get much but the basic standard stuff and silicone (DOT 5) which you should not consider.
