Hrmm...this is getting me pretty agitated ! It seems that in the lower rpms i have a big drop in power. I used to be able to spin the tires from a dead stop (aode) by just punching it, now I cant even do it with the wheels turned a little bit. What gives? I did a tune up (wires, cap, rotor, plugs) The next thing I was going to try and do is clean the MAF. Is it on the throttle body held on by two philips? Any suggestions? Firing order is right..all the cylinders are firing...grr.

I have the same problem. I change plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, timing on 11, gutted cats, and cleaned maf.

if that doesn't work and you find out what does please tell me.

I might have made a mistake cleaning my Maf sensor. I only took it out to this picture
maf2.webp

and cleaned it with a q-tip and alcohol. I still think that should work.

Have either of you changed your atf recently? maybe old atf is causing the convertor to either hit softer or at a lower RPM therefore decreasing the shock on the rear tires and the power available at the time.

No, I think what you are referring to is the IAC valve. (Might want to clean it too, though.) The MAF is in the intake plumbing. If you have all factory parts, it will be inside the round plastic black enclosure with wires connecting to it on the outside.

BTW, when you clean it, I would recommend taking the actual sensor out. If you only do it like Mustangless said he did it, you will not have access to all sides of the sensor wires. You'll need a tamper-proof torx bit.... I think T-20 or T-22... can't remember. Anyways, just clean it with alcohol & a Q-tip.... being VERY careful as the filament is VERY fragile.

Ugh, I just checked my oil, its pretty dark. I was so sure that they changed it when I took it in .. grr. Well I'm going to change it tomorrow. Besides it affecting the motors life, does it decrease performance? I also need to get that torx bit to clean the MAF so I will be making a trip.

You can tell a little difference with fresh oil changes.... but not a SOTP difference, so I don't think that's it. I'd get it changed, though. I'd just clean everything up and see if that helps.

Okay, so update. I cleaned my MAF and the car felt a lot stronger, but now its two weeks later and it feels slow again. Whats the next step I should do? Also sometimes when I put my car in drive or reverse, it hesitates and then the rpms kick up and then normal, like its going to stall. Do any of these problems come together?

when I put my car in reverse sometimes it hesitates like it is in netural then it goes into reverse. I am not sure if the rpms go up though. I am going to try to find some throttle body cleaner and clean all that stuff going to the intake. Maf, iac? and throttle body itself. I got a code scanner today but I am not sure if I got codes.

I haven't checked my fuel pressure yet, don't know if that code be a problem.
