Down on power (lower rpm's)

All of us having the same problem...grrr...I'm going to pull the codes again.

Today while I was driving at some red lights when I would take off (normally) it would like hesitate like I needed to give it more gas to go. I don't know what the problem is. Maybe its a vaccum leak.

I've got a gauge on mine - all is good. Before you spend the money on a gauge and rail adapter, it might be cheaper to find a mechanic that could check it quickly for ya. Just hindsight talking. :)

EDIT: I got my gauge and rail adapter from Summit - I found the P/N's by searching this forum.

Mustangless:
How'd you like your shift-kit? Did you install it yourself?

I did not install it but is "had supposed to came with it" when I bought the car. I am not sure that the car even has one in it. When the car shifts the rpms will hang for a second then it will shift. I have been thinking about modifying the valve body.

Mine is an aode but it is not a convert. I think I am about to buy a fuel pressure guage and check that. My gas milage is also very bad.

where can I get a cheap fuel pressure guage?
before i bought the autometer electric gauge, i used one i got from the local auto parts store that screwed right into the schrader valve. if my memory serves me right (going back 3 years), i paid about $20 for it.

i had the same problem too. the fix for me was pitching the AODE in the trash and bolting up a T5. mine was a torque converter issue. rather than blowing the cash on a performance converter though, i opted for the 5spd swap.

I think it might actually be the converter. I think it feels the exact same for me as someone is feathering the clutch, although not as drastic. So maybe I'll just get a torque converter. What about changing the fluid in the converter? Did you try that? Does it share the same fluid as the tranny? I'm scared of a t-5 swap.!

I am going to try to narrow down the problem with the Haynes repair manual.

Troubleshooting

Engine Lacks Power...

The only things that it could be under that are...

5. Faulty ignition coils... (I have not checked that)
7. ATF level low causing slippage (had it at the shop about a year ago but it could be wrong)
8. Fuel filter clogged or impurities in fuel system (new fuel filter and have ran stp fuel injector cleaner) What is recomned to clean fuel system?
11. Low or uneven cylinder compression pressure. (is this worth checking)
12. Vacuum leak at intake manifold or vacuum hoses. (I probably need to check that)
13. Dirty or clogged fuel injectors (have ran stp fuel injector cleaner) enough?
14. Fuel injection or engine controle system malfunction (fuel pressure need to be checked?)

Problem #2

Excessive fuel consumption

6. Fuel leakage (could be this but not sure)
7. Dirty of clogged fuel injectors (ran stp fuel injector cleaner)
8. Fuel injection or engine controle system malfunction (fuel pressure need to be checked?)
10. Improperly operating Transmission (need to read up on that)

Problem #3

Hesitation or stumbled during accleration.

2. Dirty or clogged fuel injectors (ran the stp fuel injector cleaner)
3. Low fuel pressure
4. Fuel injection or engine control system malfunction (fuel pressure need to be checked?)

Dirty or clogged fuel injectors were in all 3 of the troubleshooting problems. Is there anything better that I can buy to use than the stp fuel injector cleaner? Also fuel inection or engine control system malfunction showed up 3 times. I will read up and try to see what that is about. Is there anything else in those lists that I should check?

I really really really think that my problem is
7. ATF level low causing slippage
It really feels like slippage. It's only down on power in the low rpms. So I think that the torque converter is slipping untill it locks up harder when it gets to higher rpms.

that should be an easy one to check, i really doubt mine is low though. Do you have bad mpg?

Easy to check, if I had my license...lol. I can't really do anything since I can barely drive it...get my license in a week though. Change oil, oil filter, and ATF. Does the converter and the tranny get the same fluid source?

I probably messed things up even worse the other day. I was cleaning iac, throttle body and maf. I was cleaning it all with carb cleaner. I just read that I was not supposed to clean the maf with carb cleaner.

I read on another board where someone disconected their maf and it ran better. They then cleaned it but it was not running as good as it did when it was disconnected.

your transmission fluid may be low. that will cause the torque converter to slip even if the converter is in perfect shape. and there is nothing to be afraid of about the t5 swap. i had never removed a transmission from a car when i did mine. the hardest part in my eyes was changing out the pedal assembly.

Dang this sucks. I have gone 120miles and have a 1/4 left :fuss: . I have ran seafoam and nothing is better. I am not certain but above 2k rpms it seems to pull harder. I really am thinking about ordering the cheaper edge tq. I just don't won't to spend all that money and it not fix it.
