I want a stickier tire than stock but not a tire that cant handle wet roads. Is it a drag radial I want?
If so, who has the best prices? I need some soon. Real soon. The back tires go way faster than the front ones...lol

back tires usually always wear faster than the front on a mustang lol

i wouldnt run a drag radial on the street, they are soft and ANY sort of tirespin on the street, asphalt or concrete will eat a drag radial alive. they are just too soft for the street, and when i ran mine on the street they didnt really hook better than the street tire, they may have if i heated them up but i wasnt about to heat them up on the street and ruin them

sure they are DOT approved but i would only run them on a weekend only street drag car that only drives to the track.

i ran some nice BFG drag radials on the street, i got them used but they are ALOT of tread. i ran them for 2 months on the street before i ever got to the track and by the time i got there they were almost bald and i ran 14 passes that day and pretty much finished them off. and i dont spin the tires on the street alot, just the occasionaly back road roar and fun, no burnout either, just tire spin from punching it 1st and turning them over and spinning in 2nd

if your looking for traction at the track, i would get an extra set of rims and get a nice drag radial or slick and put them on at the track.

as for street traction, its all in the foot, ease into the throttle dont just floor it and hope it hooks or get some suspension upgrades. control arms, adjustable shocks and drag springs.

i got the arms, drag shocks.struts and stuff and it helped street traction a great deal. went from tire spin to hooking in 1st gear, still have to play with the gas a tad bit but thats just what you get into when hopping up a car.

lol I dont see how you could see no difference on the street.

Ive had nothing but drag radials on my car for 3 years, and I daily drive it every day. I drove it through snow with MT ET radials, I put them on may of last year and they still have tread on them with burnouts here and there. The difference is night and day on the street, I will never put on a regular set of tires in the rear as long as I live. At the very least Ill put on nittos. Driving on regular tires is torture to me, nothing is worse than losing to a slower car just because of tires.

Ive never been able to blow the tires off without dumping the clutch on the street with the MT ET radials, it just chirps thats all, and yes, I murder people out of the hole with twice my power. My car was an animal out of the hole with just the 4.10s and a set of nittos. Traction is so much fun.

i duno man , i just didnt seem to notice much of a difference on them. but it was a long time ago on some BFGs. i got some different ones now( et streets) and i just dont take them out on the street. they are mounted on two extra drag lites i have so they match my wheels on the car, and i dont drive the car much. i just put them on at the track and save what i can.

once i wear these out i will get a nice wrinkle wall slick. then i know for SURE i wont run them on the street hehe

I've been running Nitto D/R's for about the last month, 275/50/15. with the 100% stock 4 cyl car (before suspension mods) I raced out infront of my work, reved to 4k, brought my foot straight up off the clutch (which slips VERY bad) and left 11 feet of rubber on the road, going DOWN hill. I used to be able to chirp them going into second, but my clutch just spins now!

I have driven them in all the rain storms so far, and they performed great.

I think I will run nothing but a D/R from now on, as long as I can get 12k miles out of them.

My long story suggest you to never buy Nitto D/R's!!!!

MT ET radials are wrinkle wall, and like I said its enough of a difference that you cannot force me to run regular tires on the street. Anyways tire pressure makes a big difference in wear pattern and traction obviously on drag radials more so than regular tires. I run mine at about 22-25psi on the street.

Well, just like when I said, "I gotta try 4.10's." Im going to have to get some d/r's to see for myself. I drive my car as a second car only, usually to the store and back. Did you guys get these at a Tire Kingdom or something? Did you order them through the mail? Where are the best prices? I have a pep boys cc, they got em there? Thanx to all.

Are you sure the MT ET Radials are wrinkle wall? The MT ET Radials are normal drag radials made by Mickey Thompson. The Wrinkle walls you speak off - I believe - are the MT ET Streets, which are not radials, but rather slicks w/ grooves in them to make them DOT legal.

Yeah Im sure, the MT ET radials are wrinkle wall, thats why people are cutting slick similar times on them. I was doing rev limiter dumps on them and the car was nosing over with 4.10s lol.

On topic, prices vary a little, but Summit was $160 each for the 275/50-15 drag radial.

Some times you can get "blemished" tires (totaly aesthetic, doesn't effect tire performance or safety) for around $110-120.

Nitto Drags. I just bought 2 new ones for 300 bucks. 275-40-r17. They are great in the rain. They hook good dry, but not as good as the new M/T E/T Streets. But those tires will kill you in the rain and they will not last as long!!

For all round street tire that hooks and is fine in the rain, can't beat Nitto drag radials. I used to run crappy Falkens Ziex - what a load of crap - difference between those and the Nittos is like night and day - very good compromise between street and strip.

IMHO, the best overall drag radials your going to find that are capable in the rain are the Nitto's. They have far superior traction than any ordinary radial tire and will not be scary in the rain (and get decent mileage too). I'm currently on my 3rd set…and can't imagine the lack of traction I would have without them. I'm with Aliate X on this subject…never will she wear another pair of shoes out back other than a drag radial (for the street). :nice:

Good thread (not trying to hijack).

I do have one question though about tire size.

Will a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets fit on the 17" GT Tri-bars?

They are 275/40R17's. I want the MT's, but also want to keep the Tri's on the Capri.

Thanks.
