Dry rotted or rotten?

I picked up a set of 1991 Ponys from eBay that were advertised as being on a driven show car with 95% tires. After looking the wheels over all of this is true, but two of the tires have dry rot cracks in various places. If this were one of my bikes I would swap out the tires and be done with it, (since I can do those in my garage) but I don't have the same intuition with my Mustang as I have with my Ducatis. Are these tires rotted or rotten?:

Not sure why I can't post pics...but if you click on the link you can see the cracks in the valley of the tread and on the sidewall.

That looks like dry rot to me. I wouldn't put my car on the road with those tire.

If you can't afford a new set of tires to throw on there, I'd at least have a good spare/jack/lug wrench handy at all times and/or have some tow insurance on file. FWIW, I've driven on worse tires without having one pop on me, but it's entirely dependent upon the tire design ... and blind luck.

Better yet, don't risk it at all. Send those Pony rims to me.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I knew the answer to my quesiton before I even asked it. Affording new tires isn't the issue, wanting to replace them is another.

Now I have to do some research into new tires. I don't want drag radials but more like a cool summer tire, maybe BFGs...suggestions?

I wouldn't drive to much with those. As for tires I have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and like them and they get good reviews. They are a summer/rain tire ONLY.

My big worry wouldn't be popping a tire or having it go down but rather seperating a tire and having it beat the crap out of a quarter panel or fender.
