dumb question

well this might sound dumb but what are straight pipes? this guy in my neighborhood has them on his 95 bronco and they sound super cool. he seriouly wakes me up every morning and i can hear him almost 2blocks away. do they have catalytic convertors and mufflers? are they made for our cars and if so, are they good. thanks again

Straight pipes means there is no muffler or cat just pipe from the motor to the back of the vehicle. Yes they're loud, and illegal. Straight pipes won't pass emissions or a decibel test. They sound good on V8's but sound like crap on anything else.
