Went to the dyno today to try and solve the 8 miles to the gallon problem that I have been having. The first run it pulled 258 hp. The fuel pressure was at 42 lbs with no load so we took 10 lbs of fuel off and ran it again. final numbers after a few runs are 286 hp with 320 tq to the rear wheels. I will be bumping the timing and heading back. Anyone have any ideas if I should chip this this or go with engine management system like "Fast'' or Uni- chip? Any suggestions would be great. Oh and the Afr numbers were around 11 to 11.5 after the fuel diet!

Decent numbers, but something still seems missing. Your pressue is low if you set it at 30 with the vac line unpluged at idle...I would not go much lower than stock or near stock setting for your combo. I think you can pull 300 or better should you find the sweet spot for the F/P and timing. Good luck.

Your AFR is probably still too low. We set my car at 13.0 to 1 for the best power. Some less feul and more timing and it'll be better for sure. Have a place that can do a custom SCT chip dyno it. They can adjust out any extra fuel and get it tuned to a T.

Im taking it you have an aod.....If so a good high speed torque converter will do "wonders" for your performance!! Not so much for dyno #'s but it could give you 5-7 tenths in the 1/4 with traction!!!

No Aod. I have a WC t5 with 2.95 1st and Alloy gears. Using king cobra clutch right now but am going to change the pressure plate to a centerforce that i have in the garage.

Dyno

The printout says Dynomite. The guy said it gives true HP and tq readings. He mentioned that the Dynojet, and Mustang dyno's would give me a higher HP and Tq reading. We did like 6 runs, 2 Under load. He only charged me 110.00 for 4 hours of Dyno time!

the afr is too rich and you shouldnt run less then 40psi of fuel pressure. if your afr is rich at 40psi then you need a chip to take fuel out at higher rpms

Chip

What chip should I get? I was thinking of a engine management system.

an engine manigment system would be even better because you can tune the car when ever you want and save multiple tunes.
if you go the chip route, whatever the dyno tuner is using is probably a good chip.

You really should not need a chip to tune a na car like this. I would not get one, waste of 300+ dollars IMO.

Dumb question. Did you pull the vac line and cap it when you set fuel pressure?

WOW. 4 hours to make 6 pulls?

We took our time and let the car cool down between each run. Plus they were going over AFR with me and talking about what we could do. My fuel regulator does not have a vac port. I am going to change to a BBK one with the port. I bought the car with the one thats on there and when I saw that it didn't have it the other day I wanted to change it then but was low on cash. I was going to bump the timing a few degrees and then change the fuel reg. Hopefully that will give me a few more Ponies
