dynomax super turbo's - opinions?

got my subrames on today and also found a part number on my mystery dynomax mufflers, they're 2 1/2" super turbos. just wondering who's heard them and what you think? i dont like them, i think they're way too quiet. i want something louder. will flowmaster 40's or something like 40's be a huge difference over these, or fairly similar? i have 1 5/8" LT's with O/R x and full 2 1/2" exhaust. will i see any performance gains?

mine are loud and very anoying at 1,500 rpm...talk about some drone!

I have one on my Cherokee if that counts....it's pretty quiet but sounds good at the tail pipe for what it is.

at 1500 i hear my injectors over my exhaust! ive never really heard them from anywhere but the drivers seat, so they may sound different on the outside. i tried to make a burnout video once (didn't work out how i planned, )and i thought they sounded good on vid, but thats not what i hear when i'm driving... heres the setup now. please close your eyes and ignore the video and just listen....

I was never quite pleased with them, myself. Too quiet, except for that weird throbbing sort of drone at certain RPM's (I think it was around 1700 on mine), and totally no character to 'em at all.

The Super Turbos that I got for the same-side inlet/outlet were louder, because the internal baffle design was basically just a U-bend, but they sounded way too Uncle Jessie pickup-like for me and didn't sound right with an off-road X-pipe - they're better suited to an off-road H-pipe, IMO.

Then again, if quiet is what a person wants without killing too much flow, they're a decent option. Pretty cheap, too.

Mine are loud. Now I have 1 3/4 LT's. I love the way they sound.

I have mine dumped and they sound GREAT. I love them compared to my Flowmasters with tails.....THOSE droned horribly. My STs have a resonation at idle, but I have my idle set at 1000rpms. When driving, they sound how a Mustang should sound. They are loud and rumble, but they don't have that drone that chambered mufflers have.

I had the same mufflers as you have. They are quiet as crap. I couldn't make those things loud no matter what rpm. When i rev'ed it up, i could here the engine over the exhaust! Then when i installed my maganflow with offroad x and shorty headers i about **** myself for how loud it was. Talk about night and day. Those mufflers suck UNLESS you like quiet. THen your for you!

thanks. got that problem fixed now though! can you see the hatch and windows shaking all to ****! its not really noticable in the vid, but i thought my car was going to blow up!!!!!

whats with the difference in opinions i'm seeing? if i dump them will that change the sound a lot? my tailpipes dont come out right now anyways, so i was considering it...

Just giving you $hit man. No offense intended. I've experience wheel hop and it is no fun to say the least. The 40-Series btw will definitely be louder. Get the Delta Flows if you want less drone.

mine were quiet when i was N/A and now with the turbo they are even quiter.. i love it cause everyone thinks its just another 5.0

I loved the superturbos, and according to the research I did, they outflowed Flowmaster chambered mufflers. I prefer my ride to be quiet so I can have a good conversation, or I can listen to music without screaming or turning up the volume. Good for sleeper effect, too.

I have them on my Cobra. When I smoke people, they ask me what type of exhaust, I tell them stock!!! They believe me too because they are quiet even with an off road H and L/T's. They even look stock, because they have the rolled edges, not smooth like flows/mac/etc....No drone at all at any speed/RPM.

The flows drone like a mofo but I love it. I have the exhaust to be loud, it's a mustang not a mercedes

must be the Stock H that causes it...of course mine being dumped dont help..

With as many squeaks and rattles as there always are in a Fox car, I gave up on the idea of trying to keep mine quiet.

FWIW, Frankenstang has a Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back on her '86 GT 'vert. It sounds about as mellow and tame as you can possibly get, especially with the stock four-cat H-pipe ahead of it. However, as stated, it's kinda nice to be able to actually hold a conversation (even with the top down) without having to scream to one another just to be heard.
