Ok, my battle against the emergency brake continues.

I have an MGW short throw shifter installed, and thought that maybe I didn't put Dynamat in the right places to stop a rattle that some people have after installing the shifter...but I am convinced this is no longer the problem. After sitting in my uncle's Mustang, I determined that it was most definitely the e-brake itself. When released, his e-brake is very firm, while it only takes a few clicks to set the brake. Mine on the other hand is very loose when it is released, which is where my rattle is coming from, and I have to pull it nearly all the way up to set the brake.

At first, I thought it might be the brake pads...so I changed all four today, got some Hawk ceramics. The back pads were worn a good bit, and I thought I might've fixed my problem. Nope, still there.

So, I guess it's just my e-brake needs to be adjusted. Can anyone guide me through some steps to get this problem fixed? I have a 2005 Mustang GT coupe.

Go to the MGW site and download the install video. There's a section on the e-brake fix.

I didn't watch the video but I'm guessing it's just the application of the Dynamat to the sides of the E-Brake handle? The OP has already done that. It does really sound like the E-Brake needs to be adjusted. It happens with every car.

Quoted for the truth...I have installed dynamat in every imaginable spot, and after messing with an e-brake on another Mustang, it is most definitely the e-brake itself that needs adjusting. I just don't know how to do that.

If your talking about adjusting the handle height, there is an adjustment bolt behind the little trap door in the center console.

That's the thing, I don't really know a lot about how the e-brake is connected and stuff, so I don't know what needs to be adjusted. But I'll check that out, see if it helps any.

THAT LINK IS PHENOMENAL!!!

It has just what I've been looking for.
The entire shop manual for the S197.
I went to the dealer to buy the book the other day and they just directed me to a website named www.helminc.com and it wasn't much help.
How did you come to find it?
Either way thank you for posting that link.

I don't know where I found it. Someone posted it on one of the many Mustang sites that I frequent (probably this one). It has been a lifesaver for me. My only complaint is that you can't save the pages to your computer, and its kinda hard to navigate the way that its set up. I'd like to find a complete online FSM, but I'll probably just end up buying one on CD. But, in any case, glad that it could help.
