E7 Heads

So I'm going to be picking up an '89 LX this weekend. It's my first mustang. It comes with a set of ported e7 heads not installed. I'm figuring I may as well put in a cam at the same time I put the heads on. What cam would be best for these heads? Also it has headers if that makes enough of a difference. Thanks

what trans?
what gears?

theres a slim selection of cams for stock spring E7s so id make sure to know what springs they have. if they're stock, upgrade to a set of gt40 springs. Id wait and pick up an intake as well and have it port matched, as the stock intake doesnt flow well either

I'm not sure on what springs it has. All I know is ported and oversize valves. It has a t5z tremec. Also I'm not sure on gears and I believe it has the stock intake. I'll find out more in the next few days. I don't want to put too much into the 302 as I'm planning on a 408 for hopefully next summer depending on how work goes. Just looking to get a bit more out of it for now.

Well if their ported, I would hope they would have put some decent springs on them.

I went 12.80 with set of ported E7's, slicks, and 3.73's.........stickshift. It had an FMS X-303 cam in it. Good running little motor.

Yea I would imagine there would be better springs in it if he went as far to port them and put oversize valves. He was using them on his supercharged 5.0.
