Is it a 94-95 or is it a 93-older car, this will impact your decision somewhat.

FTI.

Those work for both the applications in the 87-95 spectrum.

Yes it is, and most other people have caught that disease.

Without giving too much away....

You only need somewhere between 5 to 15-thousands lift difference between the intake and exhaust lift numbers.

Start with a 4 degree separation for every 5-thousands lift difference, and add another 2 degrees for every 6-thousands difference.

110, 112, or 114 LSA will work.

Joe, how do you know that? Its stuff like that I have no clue about, nor do I know where to learn it. I feel like I have a good grasp on many things on our cars, but cam spec selection is something I still know very little about... thus the reason I leave that part up to those that do like Ed.

I got my cam from Ed, and those very vague rules I gave, follow the specs of my cam. I have always thought I had a decent grasp on cam selection. Not to oversimplify it, but cam selection in a nutshell is: piston speed, port cross section, bore and stroke, RPM, and "goals."

When I talked to Ed, I told him that I had a good idea of what I needed for my cam. He was even impressed that I guessed as close as I did. I was 10-thosandths short in my intake and exhaust figures, and 1* short in exhaust duration. I'm no pro, but I can give a good guess.

now, im no math genius, so work with me here. im just trying to grasp what you said. so say i want a cam with .530 lift on the intake, than i will look for a cam with up to .545 lift on the exhaust. and than say the duration on the intake is 214, since i can put .05 into the difference of my two lifts 3 times.......4*3=12, than you say add another 2 degrees for every time i can put .06 into the difference .15/.06= roughly 2, so 2*2=4 so the combined duration difference would be 16? so my cam would look like .530/.545 with 214/230, with an lsa of 110,112,114? is this correct?

I'd go with an Xtreme Energy series camshaft. They are excellent cams!

If you want to go with an OTS Comp cam, the XE270HR would work well as a more streetable, daily driven cam that shouldn't give the EEC too much hell. The 274 or 276 cams would be a great cam for a street/strip car and Edelbrock heads.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I just did a price check on a XE cam there that was closest to mine and the price came up $345?!?! Why would you opt for something like that when you can get a custom cam for $5 more?

I probably wouldn't buy an OTS cam for $345 when I could get an Ed cam for $325.

I wasn't aware that Comp Cams sold cams for that much; mine was about $215 after the 10% off Summit coupon.

Oops... you're right! So my point is even more valid then!!!

If you have the knowledge and can pick out an OTS cam for your combo, more power to you as I can't... thus the reason I went the custom route.

Jordan, I was wondering if they could be had from distibutors for less than buying them direct... I guess you answered that for me. Thanks!
