I have search everywhere and cannot find a good comparison between the performer heads and afr 165 heads. At the moment the AFR 165's are on back order on just about every site so are these elderbrocks just as good?

Though it doesnt tell the entire story, if you can find each ones flow numbers and compare them, that usually gives a good idea on how the head can perform. A lot has to do with waht you pick as a supporting combo. Are you throwing in a cam and intake to compliment the heads? What size throttle body do you have? Motor size? NA? Forced induction? I know the Edelbrock E - series aluminum heads (170CC) arent that far behind the 165s in terms of flow. Toward the end of the cam lift range, they were pretty damn close. Close enough for me that I am strongly considering the pair of assembled E- streets ($920) over the AFR 165s ($1400). For one, I drive my car maybe a few times a week tops lately so I dont care if I squeeze every fathomable ounce of power out, and not to mention I can think of a couple other things I could use that extra 500 dollars toward. Solid steering shaft, Kenne Bell, supporting mods for Kenne Bell, etc. The site selling the heads usually posts the flow numbers at the bottom of the page.

All of these flow numbers are at .500" lift because that is the most pertinent for that size head.

AFR 165 heads start at 232/184cfm
Edelbrock E-street flows at 242/162cfm
Edelbrock Performer RPM heads flow 245/170cfm.

The Edelbrocks do better on the intake and not as well on the exhaust. For the difference in price, I would go with the Edelbrock heads. If you are still concerned with the exhaust flow, you could always get the exhaust ports and bowls cleaned out on the Edelbrock heads, and still be better off price wise than the AFRs.

Sounds good to me. I was wondering about the exhaust side but I will be getting the intake port matched anyway. Thanks for the input! BTW I was looking at holley systemax intakes and for now unknown on the cam. I have an Ecam but I don't know how well it would perform...any ideas?

I'd go with a custom cam. I wouldn't bother with the E-cam. Holley Systemax is a little big for those heads. You can get a smaller intake cheaper that will work just fine.

Like has been said, for the relatively low price difference compared to an off the shelf cam, you might as well go custom once you figure out what you're doing in regard to supporting and additional mods to the engine.
