I recently bought a 16 inch puller fan from ebay and now Im looking for a shroud. I know there is a local company that can make a plastic shroud for around $50, I just need to give them the dimensions. I was wondering if i can use plastic instead of aluminum/sheet metal. Will plastic be ok with underhood temperatures? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Puller as in an electric fan ? If its electric you shouldn't need a shroud unless its different then the kind I am thinking of. If you are runing a mechanical fan then go ahead and get a plastic shroud if you want to, shouldn't hurt anything. I think the stock shrouds were plastic.

The fan in question could be the type with an open frame and flex-style blades, not one of the common all-plastic ones.

You can make a shroud out of anything you want. Even cardboard will work if you're not worried about longevity.
