so... i'd like to go with an electric fan assembly for my 91 notch and take off the old stock clutch fan, not necessarily because it will free up maybe 1 or 2 horses but mostly for the peace of mind of not having my car overheat once i do the h/c/i and the rest of the mods i have planned for the next few months... are there any specific brands that you guys have had good experiences with?? and also should i swith to an aluminum radiator, maybe a three tier while im at it??

thanks in advance for the advice

I have a 2 core Griffin radiator w/ 1" tubes. More swept area, better for heat dissapation than a 4 core w/ 1/2" tubes. Mustang specific, but you need to modify top hold down brackets. (easy to do). I bought the dual fan and controller assembly from DC Controls. It was wired and ready to run. Fit my rad great and works perfectly. A 3.8L Taurus, T-bird or Mark VIII fan are several of the favorites. I generally figure that if the fan came off a V8 or I can find flow numbers, it's worth a shot.

Bill is right on with how you should control it - DcControl is the way to go.

Be sure you have the 3G alternator retrofit already done.

Good luck.

I have a Taurus fan off a 3.8l for sale if you want one.- tested and guaranteed to work - price is $60 shipped. I have a Taurus fan on my 331 stroker - cools it like a champ - I have a 3G alt and use the DC Controller setup as well.

I also tossed the stock radiator in favor of a Griffin aluminum radiator.

I have the Griffin universal 31x19 AL radiator and it is great. It is 3 inches with 2 1.5 inch rows. Not sure how many fins per square inch but it seems to do great as far as a radiator. You really can't go wrong with a fan from a taurus or mark 8. The mark 8 will need some trimming to get it to fit and as far as a controler, the dc controler is by far the best IMO. You will most likely have to PM brian baskin or shoot him an email off his website www.dccontrol.com. A fan will only be as good as your controler so don't skimp out on that. I went out on a limb and installed a efan from a viper. It filled the radiator perfectly and is pretty thin for the ammout of air it flows. There is some fab work as far as spacing it out so it will be more work than the mark 8 fan to install. As for fans to stay away from... the black magic or dubbed the black tradgic. It is barely enough for a stock motor without ac. As for the black magic extreme supposidly its better but for the price you can pick up the controler and taurus fan and be done with it. Proven combo with great results.

My bad. The dual fan from DC Controls is from a SVT Contour. Has to be the SVT. The Mark VIII and Taurus fan are also great choices, I just needed the clearance because of S/C pulley.

I ran a 94-95 mustang electric fan on my fox with a flex-a-lite controler. Worked good for me. If you want i'm selling the controler cause I changed my set up. $50 and its yours.

I'm running a bigger rad with a 100 dollar chinese made flexalite knockoff w/ a flexalite controller, and it works like a charm! havent had any cooling issues since, and the hp increase was quite noticable on my car. plus it was niuce to get rid of the constant fan noise

just remember that the biggest difference is in making sure your radiator is not clogged at all and the rest of your cooling system is in normal order. Upgrades are good too, but a lot of the times not necessary. I haven't had any problems with stock stuff when it's working right.

If you are close to a junkyard, I wouldn't buy a new fan.

I can get dual speed taurus fans all day from the local pull-a-part for $20, as well as the contour fans which the blade is 1" smaller than a taurus but still dual speed.

I also have come across a dual fan setup of a mercury mystique, which was the nicest piece by far. And it fits the fox radiator perfectly.

it was a 98 . . . not sure what years have them.

I think they went the way of the taurus with the two fans being bolted into the core support soon after . . .

or you can spend 400 dollars like I did and get a fluidyne radiator. that so far has been the best thing I have got for my car. with the flex-a-lite electric fan and the radiatior, I stay at a constant 120-130. I love it

I would get an appropriate t-stat installed. Optimal water temp (with regard to engine wear) is 190-210*F.

I agree, all you're doing at 120-130 degrees is burning excess fuel, losing power, and putting more wear on your engine components.
