engine bay related question, egr and emission's

hi,
i was just wondering,if i was to go with the efi system in my rebuilder project, what am i going to "have" to put back in the engine bay,the car was stripped completely,am i going to need the charcoal canister, and all that crap?i wasnt going to use the egr or emission's crap either, basically,my engine bay right now has the motor, and if i go efi,of course the wiring harness's i need,is that enough to have it run right?thanks alot.

It depends on if your state has emissions test or not. Without the smog equipment being present and functioning properly, you will get codes from the computer unless you have a custom chip burned.

hi,
well currently we do not have it where i live,i live in western md,and it is in central md right now,so im not sure weather it will be coming our way or not, would the car pass the snifer test with out all that crap on it and being efi?and which way would you go efi or carb, being that this is the issue?thanks.

On an all weather street car, especially one that ran from sea level to the mountains, I would choose EFI. Carb'd cars can't match the economy and consistent smooth all weather performance of a properly tuned EFI car.

You probably would not pass without the EGR & Thermactor Air ("smog pump") in place. The carbon canister provides extra fuel for cruse purposes by venting the gas tank to the intake manifold.

Here's a book that will get you started with how the Ford electronic engine control or "computer" works.

Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control 1988-1993 by James Probst :ISBN 0-8376-0301-3.

It's about $20 from Borders.com see http://www.amazon.com/ . Select boo...very good, and I found it to be very helpful.
