Engine overheating with new 302 engine

I have a overheating problem. In my 1965 Mustang, I changed my 289 for a 302/330hp engine. My radiator is a 2 row model, my cooling fan is a 4 blade model that never heated on the 289 using a 195 degree thermostat. On the 302 I’m using a 160 degree thermostat.
According to my AutoMeter water temperature gauge the temp. stays at 190 when revving the engine, but at idle it goes up to 230. Seeing the car is not yet driven, I am contemplating on a 5 blade or a 6 blade cooling fan as a first remedy. If this does’nt work I will try to find a 3 or 4 row rad. that fits my Mustang. Does a 6 blade produce more air than a 5 blade model; I’ve had various opinions on the right choice.

if it runs too hot at idle it is deffinately an air flow problem, better fan blade, closer to rad, or a shroud will all help.

That was going to be my question, are you running a fan shroud?

# blades is not a performance indicator. The blade width and pitch is. I went through numerous articles and books regarding fans to try to solve my continous heating problems. I do know a proberly fitted shroud did slow down my temp creap. I have tried 5 different fans and didn't notice a difference besides the flexalite hi performance low profile really didn;t work. Theoritically a 4 blade with proper pitch flows the mos air in 0 in hg. But what that relates to cars I have no idea thats why I spent a significant restocking fee to try to find a good fan.
