My engine has lost a significant amount of compression. Its a carb's 306. It pumped 170-175 on all eight and now the highest one is 150, the rest at 110-130 and #3 is at 60. It is also blowing tons of smoke out the breather on the valve cover. It will run but not well. This happened right after a run at the drags. Heads were just freshened up. I haven't pulled it apart yet but I have the feeling I will be shortly. Any ideas what might have happened?

Blown head gasket. Who seconds that motion???

hey I had 60 compression on one cylinder, and 115 on the rest. ON A NEW MOTOR. and your complaining thank god its fixed. sounds like your rings have had enough. blow by !

Yeah I was thinking the rings maybe. The short block has 4 years of racing on it. And all the blow by coming out the breather has me thinking its terminal for the bottom end.
