Hi

I am looking to run a budget combo on my coupe with typhoon intake, tfs stage 1 cam, and gt-40 irons. I found some heads on the auction below that come rebuilt and cleaned up. Is that a decent value?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pair...ryZ33617QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The car is a 91 AOD that I have planned to add a 3K convertor to...

1. I need to know about rocker arms, 1.6?

2. Will the tfs cam work okay with the valve springs and everything that comes with those heads? Clear some of this up for me, can I just bolt on the heads as they are? Anything special I need to do or consider.

Thanks

I would stick with a 1.6 rocker arm. The TFS1 has a decent amout of lift for what it is, using a 1.7 arm will make the lift higher, which lowers the valve float rpm and may be a little close for those springs i would bet, if the heads are rebuilt and have good springs i think the cam and intake will work pretty good with it.

the heads should bolt on, if they are from a cobra mustang or explorer they will bolt directly on. Some gt-40 heads, like off of the lightning and 351 cobras. all are drilled for 1/2 inch bolts. which would require you to drill and tap new threads for your block or buy special bolt bushing which would be easier. I am sure the ones listed are the 7/16 holes...they look like it from the pics...

I wold imagine they are equivalent to stock GT40 equipment. So would the stock gt40 springs be okay with the cam and roller rockers?

Thanks

Thats the problem... you really cant IMAGINE you kinda need to KNOW excatly what kind of springs are on it... the stock GT-40p's wont take a TFS stage 1, i sure as hell wouldnt chance it on some unkown valve springs...

the TFS valve spring kit comes with locks, retainers and springs good for .542 inch of lift.. and its only like $130 bucks..

Find out exactly what springs are on that head before using that tfs1. too risky (Too Me) to run without it, and valve float problems... etc etc.

Is this the correct spring set, the top one
http://www.trickflow.com/product/camsandvalvetrain/pr_springupgradekits.asp

So would the $500 rebuilt heads be worth it since I need the TF $130 spring set anyways...

or should I just buy the take off heads that need redone for about $300, get the TF spring set, and have them cleaned up at a machine shop ?

Yea, those are the ones.. there good quality stuff.. atleast from the looks of all of it. (Alot of people have reccommended them)

your looking at spending $200 at the machine shop (realisticly) to get a valve job, cleaned and surfaced. so that really adds up to the same.. Your looking at having $630 in the heads... which, isnt all that bad, as a set of aluminum will cost you around $1000

You can also check out

http://www.cmc.net/~xero/Mousesporting.html - look for the GT-40P page

and do alittle blending on the exhaust you can really get some good flow.

goodluck
