estimate this for me

well....

forged stroker will be about $1800
AFR205's will be about $2000
Custom cam will be $350
RPM Intake will be $600
Throttle body will be $250

So.......

That's about $5000................give or take

so what about 185's. i was reading in another thread that you said victor jr. heads are better than 185's. i dont really want high RPM power. i'd like the car to be streetable also

185's are a way better match for street use.
Victor Jr's flow more air than 185's ... so in that essence they are "better" ... but as far as driveability, the 185's on a 347 is a better choice.

Street cars aren't about max power numbers, they are about having a broad power curve.

My 331 in the SSP is built for a broad range of usable juice and it'll still rev good up to the factory limiter ... it'll roll the tires right out on the concrete through 3 gears too with 3.55's in the azz :nice:

They come "ported" in a sense from afr. They are cnc'd and look very good out of the box. So it makes no sense to get 165s and port them. Get the 185s. My best friend has them on his 86 with a 331. All I can say is wow. Not a bit of dissapointment.

One of "our" magazine companies ran a 165 and 185 comparison on a 347 with all other engine components being the same, and according to the mag, the 185's only made about 20 more on the engine dyno with torque being so close it was negligable.

Porting the 165's would help a little if done on a CNC machine, but having them hand done could possibly produce adverse affect and would be a bit of a gamble ... a man just cannot produce equal flow characteristics as a machine and the factory trial and error.

Since you have 165's right now, I would keep those if you build a street 331 ... if you build a 347 I might consider selling the 165's and getting the 185's.
However, since you are making 302/6, 165 power right now ,here is my suggestion.

CHP347 balanced-knife edged-alum girdle-windage tray, 185's(58cc), RPMII, 70tb, 30lb injectors, Comp XE274HR or custom with a split pattern ... Duration around 222/228, lift around .550", 112* lobe

This combo will make enough power to make street driving quite entertaining :nice:

ok well im thinking about a either a probe stroker kit or a scat with all forged internals and this WILL be going in a dart block.

so do you think 165's on a 331 would be "acceptable"?

my first debate was between a blown 306 and a blown 331. the heads are the limiting factor and i just dont know which to do. i might have to pass the sniffer if i dont move within the next 2 years, but i plan on movign to FL...hopefully that falls through.

are the edelbrock top pieces interchangable with the professional products "typhoon" intake?

Yeah, the 165's are an awesome head. I actually considered going with them and a GT40 with the 'E' cam when I built my 331 (for emissions), but decided to go a little bigger and got the 185's and a XE266HR (it passes)

If I was going to push air I would go with a lower compression 331 and a fair amount of boost ... not unreliable boost, but fair enough to make it worth while.

The Performer and RPM will interchange, with the RPM having shorter runners to promote top end in exchange for low end response.
Although the RPMII has a different lower than the typhoon and is a completely new and improved design.

Some counties in florida dont do emissions.
