Did they ask you for any information? Like the 3-digit code on the back or something?
I ask because there was a scam going on where they would call you and claim to be your c/c company. They would say that there's a transaction on your card that appears to be fraud and that they needed to verify that you had the card on you so they would ask for those 3 digits in the back of the card. They'd tell you that they were going to cancel the card and not to worry about it. Sounds like what you are describing.
Call your c/c company yourself and check to see what's going on, just as a follow up. I worked at a couple of banks, one of them being Cap. 1 and I'm 'familiar' with those types of scams.
