Long tubes, no cats, into flows with tails. No smog pump, egr still in place.

Trying to cut down the exhaust smell. It burns my eyes if I run it at all with the garage door shut. As simple as welding in some cats? Do I need to worry about the o2 sensors in relation to the cats?

Simi related, charcoal canister is missing, but I have the plug and solinoid , I know one side goes to the intake, is the other side a soft line to the tank or what am I looking for?

Add cats. Should cut down on the smell a lot. You'll need a smog pump if you actually need to pass the sniffer (which I doubt) otherwise without it, it won't be as efficient.

As for charcoal canister. One line to front of manifold, another semi-hard line runs to the gas tank

No smog, just tired of smelling like exhaust and the wife hates it.

After the 02 sensor is fine right?

And where would the semi hard line be located? Nothing was hooked up. Passenger side area I assume .

If it's burning your eyes, I'd say the A/F mixture is excessively rich. If that's the case, you better solve that before putting cats on. The rich mixture can foul the cats and they won't even do what they're intended to do.

@MFE92 posted some nice emissions numbers from his car with cats and no smog pump. I wouldn't jump straight to the conclusion that you need to reinstall one if you don't have it.

If I recall correctly, the newer style cats on the market today don't need the thermactor system as they're far more efficient than the factory original cats that came on our cars. The original cats were far less efficient and needed the extra air from the smog pump to help the catalytic process during warm up. I think. I need to search for jrichker's write-up on the thermactor system and what it does. Pretty informative.

Many smog tests are visual as well as mechanical. I know around here, if all your smog equipment isn't hooked up and functional, you don't even need to worry about making sure it'll pass.....because they fail you before you get the chance.

Same here. No sniffer test, but if I show up without cats they won't even entertain the thought of a sticker.

I run a stock h pipe. I really need this change thst

no inspection or tests on classics here. Just looking deal with the smell. I'll post back soon. Got a couple things to do then I'm gonna start by making sure everything is running right under the hood before I mess with cats.

Looking at these. Should be a simple job. ( famous last words )

I have those same ones, and bought them for the same reason with likley the same setup. In my build thread there's pics of when I installed them into my BBK ORH. Just make sure to make an outline of sorts on some card board as a template before you go cutting on the H Pipe. You should just be able to search "squirts" and find my thread.
