Call me crazy, but I think my throttle body is capable of supporting an AOD kickdown cable. Check this out:

The throttle side can go here:

Here is the tranny side ... I think I can fab up a bracket.

at least that will be good enough to get me to the exhaust shop

here is the unconnected kickdown linkage

It may take a little effort but could be done.:nice:
you have to find/make the right length cable and route it away from the exhaust but you got good mounting points So get started.:nice:

Of course it looks like you may have to reverse the direction of the cable.

i went over to the proteus bike shop over lunch ... those guys are awesome!

i got a couple of these:

and a heavy duty cable just as thick as the throttle cable

i also found a perfect thing at home depot for the transmission lever attachment .. it is a keyhole bracket similar to this:

here's a close up on it

and a close up on the cable bracket with the adjuster on it
i'm going to use another one on the other end of the cable for maximum adjustability

in a pre-electronic automatic transmission, the kickdown cable pulls a lever on the side of the tranny that controls the line pressure in the transmission. that pressure is what presses the clutches together for the gears and keeps them from slipping when the power is applied from the engine.

the line pressure is also used along with another pumping device connected to the output shaft of the transmission (called the governor) that controls when the transmission shifts gears. when the pressure from the governor is greater than the line pressure, it shifts to the next gear.

so if the kickdown is not correctly adjusted, if there is not enough line pressure, the clutches can slip too much and be ruined. too much pressure doesn't ruin the clutches, but then the tranny does not shift into the next gear when it should.
