Failed for emissions for EGR need help!!

I know this is the 5.0 board guys so dont ****** me out yet. I just posted over here cause no one really knows anything in the v6 section. And i just have a few simple questions. Thanks

My friends 02 v6 stang failed for this "P0401 - EGR Flow
: Insufficient Detected" Now is this something that happened because of his mac catback? When he goes in to get it fixed will the void his warrenty? Is it something we car fix, if so where is it located and what do we do.

I am sure that some one hear can answer that, but you may get a quicker response in a newer car forum. The computer (and its codes) are completely different.

If I had to guess I would say that the egr valve has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I doubt the exhaust upgrade had anything to do with it. On a 5.0 it is an easy replacement, but not sure on the v6.

thanks alot man, Ill post there too, I was thinking about posting in 4.6 but i figured 5.0s and 3.8s where both pushrods and the 4.6 is modular.

I guess it is still not under warranty (for emissions devices)? I dont have a new car so I dont know........

I would want to make sure the EGR valve is able to open and that it gets a signal to do so. The OBD-II EGR systems have a feedback system to monitor its abilities, which adds more to the mix.

I agree with Jason in trying the mod motor sub-forum. The OBD-II issue is important and some of us dont have a clue how its recursive path flows.

Or try the big 3.8L mustang forum.

Actually emissions equipment does not fall under factory warranty. If I recall emissions equipment is required to carry at least a 5 year warranty and in some cases 75k and 100k. As long as the emissions equipment has not been bypassed the dealer should repair/replace it.

That is what I thought too (reason I mentioned warranty for emissions devices). Around here, it seems like people can waive going through emissions for 5 years, so that makes me think there should be a 5 year or so warranty on the stuff. We dont know milage or anything else though.

from what ive seen, 9 times out of 10 the dpfe sensor is what goes bad on the newer ford vehicles. also known as the egr valve position sensor. not hard to replace, just two bolts two vacuum lines and a connector.

If I recall correctly, I had an issue with this same sensor on my 03 Marauder. The check engine light kept coming on and throwing an emissions code. Dealer cleaned it and I was back in business.
