I spend hours today swapping my stock mid-pipe into my car because it was smog time. after I was done with the swap, i disconnected the battery for 5 minutes, to turn of the mil. after reconnecting it, the mil was off. I drove it around for about 10 min, and then took it to the smog station. after waiting forever, the guy comes in and said it failed. he said the the obd2 read a mil even tho the one on the dash wasn't on. he then told me I had to drive the car for a week after clearing the codes, so the cars computer can run its self tests. other then that, the car passed all other tests with flying colors, due to the 6cats ford so graciously put on the car. anyways my question is do I really have to drive the car for a week before I can bring it back, or is there another way around this.

the code was for a P1000 im guessing. thats something that MIL eliminators do nt control. the P1000 code tells anyone reading codes that the computer was recently reset. you have to do a complete drive cycle in order to turn off the P1000. usually driving it for a week will accomplish that. if you had left the MIL eliminators on, you would have failed visual portion of the inspection.

And yes i know a p1000 will not be cause or fixed by mil elemantors.BUT if he had them in the first place he would not have had to reset the light.

As far as visual ..90% of the places dont look hard if there is not a code..

ya but in CA we actually do a visual inspection. i know in my shop and in other shops where people i know work at they do a full visual and when cars like mustangs come in they know exactly what to look for. even a lot of my import owning friends who are smog techs knows what to look for on mustangs.
