Fake Hood Scoop ?

I have solved my problem with water leaking from the scoop after drying the car.
What I do is after washing the car....I just pop the hood and open it then drop the hood (close it) and all the water jumps out the honey comb...

You all have problems with water getting inside, then later draining out, of the stock GT scoop?

I don't have that problem. Mine has gasket between the scoop and the hood, and that seems to pretty well seal the scoop from getting water inside.

Yeah, I like the look of the hood scoop, but that honeycomb is pretty much crap. :nonono:

Too bad there isnt a flat black insert like the grill delete. Those inserts from CCmustang dont look bad, but i dont wanna accentuate the non-functional hood scoop.

I agree with you, but it appears that Ccmustang has a flat black insert too. I emailed them last week for any pictures but haven't heard back from them. I did get a response a while back that the inserts don't become as dull as the stock ones. Mine has a good soap film that covers the honeycombs making it look horrible. I don't want any attention to go to the scoop... damn non-functional pos.

I'm probably going to order the flat black one and I'll report what it looks like with some pics - might be a couple of weeks though.

whoa
i really like that pic
the deecals in the vent area looks really cool....
more pics??? side shots?

Thanks. Here is a side view that I took a while ago. Decals (except for the original saleen ones) are "home made"...

PS: the leak under the car does not come from it... it was raining earlier that day :D

Yes, it is subtle. It's actually taller than a stock GT hood, but not as much as a cowl hood. Just right. And the decals make it look more agressive, and like a 03 cobra saleen.
...Which is ok since my 16V engine makes almost 100HP more than a stock cobra :D

Just for the water problem, I have a BLACK GT so you know that any bit of water will leave NASTY marks. I have two things that I like to do (depending on whether I'm being lazy or not). After doing the preliminary drying, I get in the car, gun it down the street and stop hard. Turn around and repeat. It'll get the water out of the tail lights and the hood scoop too, then just re-dry.

The lazy way is just to stuff two terry towels in there overnight. Obviously that's only if I'm not going anywhere. :)

:rlaugh: Thanks for the tips, Jay! I've done the latter, but the former is a new one...sounds like fun though, and effective.

Yeah, please share pics if you do get the flat black inserts. I know exactly what ya mean by soap film (or sun bleach in my case) on the black plastic parts...turns gray. Stands out like a sore thumb, especially on a black car!

Have you tried filling the honeycomb holes with candlewax or RTV or something?
My brother was over the other day when I took the scoop off. He suggested using some black rtv to fill the holes and then paint it, but what does he know he drives a Camaro.

I was wondering about what cool mod could be done to the fake hood scoop insert on my 99 Mustang - a cool functional light that will be aimed right to help when driving - or something that would give a cool hood turn signal indicator - something neat looking and functional in some way -
