Fan Controller Question

I have been using Contour fans with a Derale controller for quite a few years without issue. In the meantime, I swapped out my factory ECU with a Megasquirt PNP. Realizing recently that the MS can be used as a fan controller, would it be ideal to go this route instead of the separate controller?

I will be pulling the ECU out for another hookup, so I'll have a good opportunity to add the controller function to it.

If I use the MS turn the fan on and off, I would still need to use my current pwm fan controller right? Would the MS tie in to the input on the controller that is now connected to the temp sensor?

Also, does MSPNP2 now have a PWM output?

No, you have to make a decision. Use existing PWM controller independently, or grab one of those OE type controllers and use parameters within MS to control it. The new firmware for MS (1.6.0) offers a specific PWM fan control menu.

I admit, this can be a little bit tricky for someone not familiar with how the system works and PWM signals and control

No. The MS will take it's temp readings from the engine coolant sensor, along with other readings from various sensors. It uses that info, along with what is programmed into the PWM fan control menu to output to the OEM stle PWM controller via a single wire.

Essentially the MS is the brain, compiling info from all the sensors used to run the engine, and outputs to the controller via a single wire. Paremeters you can control are things like the fan run % based on coolant temp, turning the fan OFF over a certain MPH (based on VSS readings) and forcing the fan on if you turn the AC on. You can also tweak these settings in MS.

I have an MS3pnp, but looking at the MS2 it does look like there are available outputs that can be configured for PWM.

Thank you for the help here. I'm not sure I'm ready to mess with all of that yet, but I'd like to have the pin wired for the future. Do you happen to know which one I would be using?

I ise my mspnp2 to control my hogh and low speed fans. I use ground trigger outputs ( forgot the pins ). They control two seperate relays. Been like this almost 9 years.
