Fan help QUICK!

Ok...correct me if I'm wrong on any of this stuff..I need to know before I do this so that I can get it done right the first time.

Our cars have 20in. shrouds and use 18in fans....i'm converting to flex-fan (can't afford an electric one..yet...and i've got an 18in flex fan already....

What size spacer should I use?...anyone know?....it looks like 1 and 1/2 but I don't want to do this till I know for sure! Any other parts that i'll need?

Hi,

This depends on how thick your radiator is. When the fan is in place 1/2 of the blade width should be outside of the shroud for maximum cooling.

I used a 2" spacer with a stock radiator. This is with my 18" reverse-rotation flex fan. Got all of it at the Auto store... Advance, I think. Fits perfectly.

Exactly! After I had mine I went and bought my brother in law one for Christmas. We realized when we went to put it on, I had bought the standard rotation fan by mistake. DOH! I ruined Christmas!!!!
p.s. They let me exchange it for the right one, so it all turned out good.

Ok...I got my fan on....reverse rotation, etc..but I got a 2in. spacer for it.....the only thing is .....that sucker is LOUD.....seriously loud whirring sound.....is that normal?.....i know the blades spread out as the rpms go up...but I've never heard a fan this loud....anyone know what I'm talking about?

Everyone has told me that flex fans are known to be LOUD.

k...good.....it's definitely loud....sounds kinda cool....but i wasn't expecting it.....i just want to make sure I didn't screw this job up

The one we put on my bro-in-law's car was kind of loud and if you stood at the the driver's door with the hood open, reached your foot into the car and onto the gas pedal and revved it, the wind from the fan would blow you in the face. It's not loud in my car though... and if you do the same foot-in-the-door thing and rev it, it doesn't blow air up that far like in his car. My shroud has a few chips in it at the bottom and his is perfect... that's all we could come up with to explain the difference. Seems to me that the way his fan acted probably meant it was doing it's job really well, creating really strong suction.
