Fan + Underdrives = Overheat?

I'll heat it up and jump back on the highway tonight and pray the temp cools down... I was so mad it spiked to 205 or 210 last time I pulled back into my driveway and shut it off...
Actually bud, can you find or borrow a big box fan? I'd hate for you to overheat on the highway. I suggested the box fan idea because for those of us that have them (I live in the desert so every family has like 10 of them), it's a nice way to test things.
Good luck.

If you have a stock fan clutch and fan, try putting it back on. If the issue improves, you know its the E-fan not being able to reject enough heat when the engine is under load but the car is at low speeds or stopped.

Good luck.

I second JT's clutch fan idea...if the rad is decent and the clutch is good that car should hold temp without any problem what so ever. I really think the rad is the issue compounded by a fan that doesn't flow enough air.

Cool, I changed the radiator 2 days ago and it helped A LOT :nice:

Now I'll put the old fan back on... like I said- none of this started until I did the E-fan :notnice:

.sorry ...rad WAS the issue and the fan is not big enough. I think once the temps start to get up after some serious driving or time, it is more difficult to get the temps down..if the fan is not up to the task it's difficult for the temps to level out, never mind come down.

So I've bought a 16" and 2 12" Autozone fans and tried each set up...

Okay guys, Hissin50, DMAN, ya'll were right

*pause*

Yes we do say ya'll down here...

It's a fan issue. I went on a 10 minute cruise and it never topped 195 degrees untill I pulled into the driveway; Then it hit 210!!!

So, I went "Balls to the wall" and decided to take a chance and drive it around... about a mile later it was back to 195

So... a couple of friends (MyBad70, another) and I decided that thier cars run great in hot weather at 195 because they do not have autozone fans,

One has a dual setup WITH a shroud and a/c condenser is still attached (MyBad70)

The other has NO a/c condensor and a 3000 cfm black magic WITHOUT the shroud.

So this leads us to believe, I can either put the stock fan back on and lose 10-15 hp or shell out the $300 for a Black magic WITH the shroud.

Should work- I've decided to get my $$$ back on the crappy dual 12" autozone fans and buy the black magic :)

I'll keep ya posted when I get it :)

Heck, I may even try the 16" autozone fan with the factory shroud

Lesson about to be learned and Tech article coming up????

One needs a shroud with a huge factory a/c condensor still in place. It's like trying to suck kool aid thru a straw as opposed to a garden hose :)

Good to hear that it sounds like progress is being made. :nice:

I gots to ask: Is using a junkyard 3.8L Taurus or Mark VIII fan out of the question? It would be on the cheap(er) side compared to the huge coin you mentioned above. I cant remember what you have fan controller-wise, but the savings could be put toward a Dc Control unit if you desired (FTW and turkey sammiches, as I think you guys say. :rlaugh: ).

Good luck.
