Alright thanks for the heads up I'll look at thicker material for the top cap and I look forward to the measurement. If it's at all possible to get a paper scribe of the bolt pattern that would be great. I want to make a jig with the bolt hole pattern so I can bolt down the 2 parts of the cut apart intake to a plate and then weld the top cap area.

Shawn, it turns out that the pattern/blueprint that I have on hand is of the 2.2L outlet and not the 2.8LC. It will take a day or so to get the pattern/blueprint from the 2.8LC and get it sent out to you. Hang tight.

What would you guys recommend I use for top cap aluminum type grade thickness and if it should be hardened.

I would use at least 3/32" thickness for the cap, if by cap you mean the top of the outlet manifold. The real concern is how are you going to support the supercharger? If the case is moving forward 1`1/2" or so, some means of supporting the weight will have to be used. The 2.8LC is some 10 plus pound heavier than the 2.2 The stock inlet/outlet manifold plus the snout supports the weight of the supercharger. If the case is moved forward, some means of support will have to be fabricated. In our application, the top of the intercooler has a plate that is 3/4" thick that goes over to the supercharger top. This plate is what supports the weight of the case. There is a lot of load that goes through the supercharger at WOT, so I hope you take that into consideration.
It will be later this week before we take off the outlet manifold from the 2.8LC to be able to get you a blueprint. We cannot seem to find the original blueprint that was made.
Another thing that you can do if you are going to stay with the stock hood, if hood clearance is going to be a concern, is to space the K member down from the front subframe by at least 1". This in effect lowers the engine. You will have to look at other things like exhaust clearance ect, but at one point Walter had his K member spaced down by 2" until he bought the cowl hood. So that is an option to look at.
Post #66 on page 4 is wrong. The outlet manifold did have to be modified by a bunch to go from the 2.2 to the 2.8LC

All good ideas, I think they also sell a lower profile engine mount may be the way to go first to lower the engine. What grade aluminum did you guys use 5052, 6061 or better. I was thinking the same thing with the Top cap that it would have to be welded with a thick enough aluminum piece that would keep the structure integrity and be able to support the heavier blower case. I will look at using the back blower support that no one uses. I will also be using the Flowzilla that does bolt to the back of the blower and then to the bolts under the throttle body to the discharge manifold. In your application with Flowzilla deleted you don't have that support for the rear anymore do you?

No rear support. The cross over iks really beefy, as is the box that the cross over bolts down to. I don't recall the aluminum grade of the cap. It is at least 3/16 thick with support beams on the inside . My top cap is a lot bigger than your design requires...3/16 without supports should be enough.

I just came into some free stock of aluminum plate 6x6 and 3/16 thick. I'm not sure of the grade but i'm gonna use it to weld to the top. I am also kicking around the idea of a screw on top plate like you guys have done with the bolting to the blower case from the inside of the intake then screw the top plate down. I'll have to look at that and make some plans.

I know you guys have an auto and it depends on when your converter flashes, but I was wondering if the 2.8L developes full boost as fast as the 2.2L

Depends on how aggressive you pulley it. Remember boost is not the end all with making power. It has been shown many times that a larger blower making slightly less boost at the same rpm as a smaller blower is likely moving more cfm and operating more efficiently, thus making more power. With as 360 ci motor like yours the 2.8 will make more power pretty much everywhere as long as the tune is sharp. You wouldn't be able to hook up full boost from the 2.8 at lower rpm's anyway. I am launching at 3700 rpm on the converter at about 60% throttle and leaving at about 12 lbs of boost. Wide open throttle launches, so far, have resulted in tire smoke. Are running a big cam? A real aggressive cam would decrese boost down low. Which is one of the things I am hoping for with my new cam. More power above 4500 and less torque below 4500.

My cam builder wants to know if the 2.8L makes boost as fast as the 2.1L or if it builds up in the higher RPM range. Also what rpm is your peak power, I'v never seen a PR KB make power over 6K have you.

Mine peaked @ 6300 with big hyd roller. Will peak around 7000 with new mech roller cam. Mod motor cars make power out to 8000 with KB blowers. The 2.1 KB runs out of cfm on a bigger ci motor at higher rpm's. My 2.8 makes full boost @ WOT no matter the rpm.

Vernon ported the R intake. Actually smoothed it out pretty good. He is pretty skilled at porting heads so the intake was low challenge stuff or him...
