Got the car back from getting some paint corrections taken care of and reinforcing some of the body panels, which I think were too loose, allowing them to flex at speed and leading to a little quarter size spot where it flaked on the drivers side rocker panel. Now, both of the rockers are more solid, and I also had them brace the rear bumper.
Vibrant Gen 3 catch can:
While they had the car, I asked Sam there to fab a bracket for the Vibrant Gen 3 catch can. Tom Schwenzer, who owns War Admiral, has one on it & suggested that it does a much better job filtering than any other can. Now, it also sits higher than the valve covers, which I'm hoping helps to suppress oily smoke vapors a little better in the engine bay, and the drain is in an easily accessible spot next to the radiator.
A/C woes fixed:
The A/C leaked down where the line connects to the compressor. Not the line itself, but the rectangular connection on the compressor housing. So, they found it and replaced a gasket, and it seems to be holding air alright, now. This comes after the initial compressor replacement seized up, and a second trip leaked down in less than a week. Hopefully, this repair will last.
Burned boot:
While they had the car, they told me that the old rack was leaking, and I took the opportunity to upgrade to an SN95 rack, which I was able to find on ebay as a Ford-refurbished SN95 rack in like new condition. It required a swap to a Maximum Motosports steering knuckle that replaced the stock rag joint. The old rack had a burned driver's side boot and it was leaking. They covered the driver's side boot in a heat shield, in hopes it would prevent another problem. Unfortunately, the heat shield was moved off of the boot thru the course of normal driving. So, it pretty much immediately burned through the new boot:
So, I added a heat shield to the exhaust, too.
It's not perfect, as it touches and will likely wear through, but I dont have any better idea. Maybe this is effectively a wear item, now.
DCC fan controller:
I had them put in a DCC pulse-width controller. When the fans kicked on, before, it drew the electrical system down so abruptly that it affected the tune's AFR and dimmed the lights, despite the 200 amp alternator. Well, the fans blew out, and I watched temps creep up to close to 230*. I tracked it to a fuse that melted at 30 amps.
There's one for each fan. So, I put 40s in. If that goes bad, I'll wire directly to the DCC controller.
Name Plaque:
A while back, I got a little plaque 3D-printed for the intake, with "Father Time" emblazoned, forgive the dust.
I'd really like something more jewel-like here, but this works for now. Ideally, I'd have a Ford Emblem but with the cars name there, but not sure how to get something like that done. So, this works for now.
Got the brake lights fixed up, too.
The car is ready. The PPF is on. I've got something special cooking for Foxtoberfest. So, I dont want to take a chance of wrecking the motor or the car, but maybe in November, I'll start getting it out to the track and on a dyno.
I'm really ready to start taking it places and spending time with this car, again. Cannot wait to do so.
